Tonight's guest mix is from Bon Johnson. Bon Johnson is the enigmatic duo of Andrew "Bons" Bosquet and Matt Johnson.
"Bons" (Growroom, Inuendo)
DJ/Producer Andrew Bousquet (aka DJ Bons) has been gracing stages and airways
since his entrance into the music industry in 1996. With his hands dipped into
all aspects of business, the veteran has quickly established himself as a prime
entity within the realm of house music. Bons is a musician meets politician of
many sorts. He has the capacity to boast his talents through all elements of
music, making him one of the most marketable djs around today.
Having performed at major events such as the Kenneth Cole Fashion Show in
Arizona, the Winter Music Conference in Miami, Avaland in Boston, and various
cities throughout the United States, Bons has consistently kept his talent on
the front lines of music culture, and has DJ’d alongside some of the biggest
names in the industry.
As well as being co-owner of Growroom Records, one of New England’s premier
record stores, the artist is also co- founder of the Western Massachusetts based
DJ collective known as ‘Greenhouse Effect’. For the last few years he has been
focusing heavily on production, in collaboration with veterans HDF (aka DJ Steve
Porter) and Bons’ partner in crime John Lobello (aka DJ Hush). His latest track
“Bender”, produced with HDF, is being played by well-known DJ’s such as Mark
Farina, Derrick Carter, Diz, and the Pound Boys, and six more releases are
scheduled to hit the circuit this year. 2003 also marked the launching of Bons’
record label ‘Inuendo’, which has been signed to a promotion and distribution
deal with Dust Traxx, a Chicago based label group that represents the labels of
such artists as Terry Mullan and Paul Johnson.
As a performer, Bons brings with him a natural charisma that entices partygoers
and rivals the best. He is known for the energy that he creates between the
decks and the dance floor, and has very appropriately been named America’s
tastiest DJ. Forever proclaimed as the ‘man with a thousand names’, any given
performance guarantees a full palate of smooth and unadulterated music. Whether
he is Bon-Bons ‘Bon Solo’, ‘Bon Jeremy’,’Bon Perignon” or ‘James Bons’, your
ability to sit still and maintain a conservative outlook is essentially
hopeless. Although the artist possesses a totally original sound and style, his
versatility, countless aliases, and capacity to vibe with his audience makes him
an individual. It is his unique talent and genuine love for music that has
pronounced Bons as one of America's’s most sophisticated DJ’s.

"Matt Johnson" ([Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), Reversible, Inuendo)
Originally from Atlanta, Matt began his career DJ’ing private parties and
warehouse events. Known for spinning a wide range of musical styles ranging from
electro to disco, the sound of Emjae captured the attention of many local
promoters. Within the year Matt held weekly residencies at clubs Tongue &
Groove, Velvet Room, and Plush. He recently migrated North to Boston to attend
Berklee College of Music and set aside his DJ career to focus mainly on his
newly found love of production. Matt’s music soon found a home among Boston
legends Steve Porter, Eli Wilkie. DJ Bons, Joe Mama, Chris Reavey, Ali Ajami and
John Debo.
Matt’s debut release, “Midnight Express E.P” on label, Release Grooves has
already gotten the attention from Sasha, Digweed, Steve Porter, and Danny
Howells. As Emjae, Matt is committed to bringing big room dance tunes that make
you shake and remixes that bring you back. His sound could be described as
retro, but his methods are very modern. Armed with only a laptop and a keyboard
Emjae is about to erupt like a volcano on a bad day.
Much like his DJ sets, Johnson just couldn’t keep to making one style of music.
Then along came Bons. The duo Bon Johnson was soon created with hopes to spread
worldwide their unique blend of “electro infused funk”. Steve Porter recognized
this group’s potential and invited Bons and Matt to perform for the upcoming
Porterhouse tour. Bon Johnson has gotten support from top DJ’s Mark Farina,
Chris Fortier, Desyn Masiello, and DJ Sneak, just to name a few.
Now that his 80’s fetish is covered, Matt sought to put on his disco shoes and
polyester shirt. It all fit together when friend Joseph Faria (Island 9) had put
the disco bug back in Emjae’s ear. The two decided to form the group Nightriders
in 2004. From the release of their first single Saxual Healing, the Nightriders
soon found themselves on dance charts worldwide. With DJ support from Roger
Sanchez, and Mark Farina, Joe and Matt inked a deal with Reversible and Inuendo
records. You’ll find nothing but warped disco samples, driving bass lines, and
searing leads when the needle drops on a Nightriders record.
Matt has also joined forces with Joe Mama of Plastic Sex and Jeff Grosse of
DiscHo on 2 side projects that are making their way onto dance floors.
