Re: 2nd but really first trip to Europe

I've got a friend here who's from Paris - he's one of the nicest people I know. We are going, mostly because my wife really wants to, and several of my friends (women) have said it's their fav city in Europe.

i'd have no qualms about going back. and i'd even say that it's a must see city. but having traveled as much as i have, to me, there are more interesting places. your wife will love it i'm sure. it was a must see for me and my first stop the first time i went to europe.

Any specific experiences you really enjoyed about Rome or Paris, that may not be obvious, I'd especially love to hear about

When you go to the Vatican City (or any church in general), be sure to wear pants and something to cover shoulders for women. A lot of tourists get turned away for inappropriate clothes.
And eat fresh french bread, it's amazing. I would buy a fresh loaf like every day.

$$$ thanks Rawr. and thanks again Bender for all the good info. I have a friend from egypt that travels the world and is used to mixing with many different cultures and is widely accepted wherever he goes. However, his experience in Washington DC was not a good one, more than a handful of people treated him in a way that he felt was very rude and disrespectful. So when he arrived in Florida, he was a little discouraged by his experience in DC. And this is a guy whose passport gets more use than any person I have ever met. Point being, it doesn't take much to color someones perspective of a new or different culture/city negatively, and it's normal. I've heard many people say they did not like Paris because of the people.

If you ever get a chance to check out some night life in Paris, make sure you check out the Rosa Bonheur. It is off Botzaris via the metro. That's about as much as I enjoyed in Paris. Everything else was either too busy, with rude people, and never really got a chance to get around around much within France. I'm sure there are wonderful places around France.

thanks bud. was hoping for a few recommendations in Paris and Rome. Hope we get lucky with some decent dj's while we're there as well.

"concrete" looks interesting in Paris via that video I posted above.

I'll have to give Rome and Paris some thought. It's been so long
                  since i was there.

Leaving on Wed . Tripadvisor has a great app that doesn't require internet, for maps, etc etc. Really looking fwd to spending time in these cities that I've admired my whole life but never been to. Hope to take some incredible photos while I'm there, gonna be a bit of a pain lugging my camera around, it's not light, but will be worth it. Reading a lot about pick pockets, if some kids tries to steal my shit, is it ok if I kick their face?

There was a video about Concrete on youtube I think it was by RA, I'm not really sure... I remember watching it, anyone know what I'm talking about? It was about the club opening, being on a boat, in the water, changing the club culture of Paris, etc.

                              found it:

I'm looking into a couple of classes for that as we speak. London was a lot of fun as well. Rome was just mind blowing. Venice was something that was definitely nice to see, but that will be the last time I go. It's turned into a bit of Disney World there. Full of t-shirt stands and immigrants selling fake handbags, etc. A few too many tourists for my taste.

Thanks for all of the kind words. We're just awaiting the wedding photographer to get back to us with the portfolio he's put together and then I'll have some more to share.
