Tuckshop announce 3rd birthday celebrations - ‘Welcome to Havana’ North London Summer Carnival and Dele Sosimi album launch

    July 29th - 30th
    Styx, N17 9LJ

Tuckshop is delighted to announce the final details for its spectacular two-day event ‘Welcome to Havana’ on July 29th and 30th at North London arts space STYX in Tottenham.

As well as a special album launch party with Dele Sosimi (live), the summer carnival will offer live Afro Cuban jazz musicians, as well as sounds from The Menendez Brothers, a First World Records showcase, Werkha (DJ set + live percussion) and more besides. Because it’s a birthday event, Havana production and tropical decor will be in great supply, and the whole event will take place both outdoors and indoors, promising to be infused with vibrant cultural offerings.

As well as the colourful and charming music, this two-day bonanza will also offer up tasty cocktails, hula dancers, loads of fresh fruit, extra special celebratory production, contemporary art, fire shows and much more, so it will be a fulsome weekend out for lovers of all types of worldly musical sounds and scenes.

Up first on the Friday is a special album launch party with long-time Fela and Femi Kuti collaborator Dele Sosimi that will showcase a rich take on Nigerian and African music, with support from Tru Thoughts star Werkha featuring live percussion, plus Banana Hill, Thris Tian (Global Roots Soundsystem/Boiler Room), Manu & Ando and Miguel from Tuckshop.

On the Saturday, a special guest DJ from RinseFM will headline (to be announced on the day), and there will be an Afro Cuban jazz show from Vince Vella & The Afro Cubans. They join Tuckshop in hand-picking a selection of extremely talented Afro Cuban Jazz musicians who have been representing the authentic Cuban sound for over 10 years. These artists have collectively performed, toured and recorded with artists such as Quincy Jones, Guajiro Mirabal (Buena Vista Social Club), Gilles Peterson, Gregory Porter, Jamelia, The Herbaliser, Joey Negro, Moloko, The BBC Big Band, Gregory Porter, Sierra Maestra, Kandela Mi Son,Changuito, Marcos Suzano, Massamba Diop, George Delgado, Sidiki Dembele, Rumberos de Cuba (to name a few) and even written music for three Clint Eastwood movie soundtracks.

Tuckshop will be pulling out all the stops to bring back that classic carnival feel good party to North London.
