I totally disagree with the project and think it's unacceptable to ask people to 'donate' (a word usually associated with charity) towards a personal project in the toughest times of our generation. If the project was to fund a conservation effort in a 3rd world country he'd have my blessing but it isn't. The reaction is because it's an unthoughtful thing to do at this time. There are many people who will read it who haven't got a job and have been made redundant. Requesting funding for things like this should be done amongst friends on a personal one to one level. It's so unbelievably cheeky to send out a global message for help which has no charitable benefit.

Guess what? Nobody asked you to be the Internet Donation Police and pass your righteous moral judgment on what causes can and can't solicit donations and when they can and can't do it. Most of us on here are adults who can decide on our own what causes we will and won't support; your "help" in this regard is not needed or desired.

But still, if you insist on manufacturing "faux personal insult" over ridiculous things, then that is your right. Just know that most of us who have our heads on straight find it thoroughly lame. It's just an art documentary, for God's sake; it's not like Jeffrey came in here asking you to donate money to a kiddie porn flick or to microwave cute kittens. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to donate to anyone at any time.

Do you also get insulted over the fact that people spend money on discretionary items such as magazines, skull candy headphones, automobiles, air conditioning, sneakers, and iPads? Maybe those should fall on your "bad" moral list too, seeing as they represent discretionary spending during a tough time and all (and I'm sure you're not a hypocrite who consumes any of that stuff). I'm sure there are a lot of other little things for which you can look down on everyone else if you just put your mind to it.

Millions of people and organizations solicit donations for all kinds of causes every day, and times have never been such that there is no poverty, war, etc. If you don't like the cause, then how about this: JUST DON'T FREAKING DONATE. There. Is that so hard? And the best thing is that you can do this all without your douchy "holier-than-thou" attitude, by the way. All you have to do is have the maturity to get over yourself starting now.

Think about it. This shouldn't require five pages.

If this place suddenly becomes a place like back in the times toasty is referring to, it isn't going to be a place where like-minded people can come to and feel safe to talk about things they love and are passionate about in life. We are not one of those communities where people are afraid to to post and simply lurk in fear of being attacked or criticized. We are better then that here.

This community is suppose to be about people having a common bond and love for music. With that, this community built the reputation of being a fun, welcoming place where even life-long friends are made. The type of friends that I would trust my life with, who I care about, and even some I love with my whole heart. If we lose this, then we are no longer the community I thought we were, and that would be a very sad thing in my opinion

There was a period in 2007-08, I think -- and there have ben others, as well -- where people pretty much just let the venom fly, and I gotta say, those weren't really fun times to be around here.

I guess the point that some people are trying to make is that the question is not so much "was P&D's post the pinnacle of nastiness," it's "was that intended to be part of a dialog, or was it just being mean-spirited for the hell of it?" Seems to me this is closer to being mean-spirited, and then the question becomes, "is this really what you want?" I can't believe the stuff I am reading. Jeffrey is putting the word out on a passion project of his. He is not forcing anyone to donate. He is not spamming. He is not forcing anyone to even read this thread. What difference does it make what else is going on in the world or if the economy is bad? I just don't see the relevance!

But at the moment so many people around the world are dying and really, really need help. But this is my personal opinion.

Then do something about it, instead of suggesting this is what Jeffrey should be concentrating on.

A few years ago my opinion would have been pretty much the same as pumperdumper. But over the years I have come to realise the importance of art in a spiritual way. We need it. !! But now a lot of people are just fighting for actual survival and my charity dollar is limited. Actually instead of giving credits and dvds , putting on shows for charity might have been a better idea. That's constructive
