"Arsenal drew first blood in this season's battle with arch-rivals Man United with a 3-1 victory in the Community Shield. Gilberto sprung the offside trap to open the scoring early in the second-half but United struck back through Alan Smith, who volleyed home on his official debut. Arsenal played the better football in a competitive friendly but it was two pieces of indecisive defending from United which gifted Jose Reyes with a 59th minute goal and resulted in a Mikael Silvestre own goal minutes later."

i dont like either team, but as a spurs fan... id rather not see arsenal win :x :WinkNSmi:

I was wondering who would place the 1st football thread. Good 1st half, crappy second half with all the subs, but its understandable, need to get the young lads some more time before the real footy starts.
Smiths goal was class, and Cole's "goal" was a calamity. lol
But it's on now.. so lets sit back and enjoy the ride.

Arsenal looked good, even with an inexperienced midfield of gilberto, pennant, fabregas and reyes. It was an entertaining match all in all - and i honestly think the united era of dominance may finally be ending - bellion and djemba djemba are absolutely shocking,i bet roy keane is crying his eyes out at the thought of them wearing the shirt.

p.s - reyes is looking pretty good at the moment as well

Steve Graham
August 9, 2004, 10:56:28 AM
Yes, Bellion and Djemba are awful. But I doubt once Solskjar is fit and Ronaldo is back they wont see a hell of alot of time.
I think the top 5 or so is going to be more of a fight than ever before. And I dont see ARSE-nal running away with it this season by any means.

peloquin
August 9, 2004, 12:54:03 PM
i think its gonna be a close season too (spurs wont be up there) but the arse, united, chelsea, newcastle, liverpool should be a close race. i dont think arsenal will be as invincible as they were last year... i think it might be chelseas better shot than they had last year. we will see

saw that, gotta feel sorry for that guy, the moment beckham is gone and he is tipped to play on the right side, he gets some major injury problems. i think utd. will do okay, i dont think they'll win the league, but they will be thereabouts at the end of the year :FuckOff:

player of the season IMO

Its a bit early.. but I think Drogba is going to give Henry and Ruud V. a run for their money. He has massive size and pace. But with Viera gone, which I think is about to happen, Reyes could have the season of a lifetime.

peloquin
August 9, 2004, 06:54:14 PM
drogba should be good, kezman has looked good in friendlies too from what ive heard. :Bingo:

Steve Graham
August 9, 2004, 06:57:21 PM
oh yeah.. he was good, until he got sent off because Dacourt is a filthy fucking player. The only trouble is, as usual, Chelsea is so stacked there won't be enough ball to go around. Especially now Mutu's loan deal fell through.

peloquin
August 9, 2004, 06:59:52 PM
thats true, but did you see that kezman won his appeal and doesnt have to serve that 3 match ban. justice served imo, and that cunt dacourt should get a further 3 matches. awful tackle, shite like that does not belong in the "beautiful" game

Aaron Cook
August 11, 2004, 06:08:47 AM
I think Chelsea will win, the've built some solid players on top of the quality they already had. The manager seems very focussed

Liverpool are going to do much better this year too

Personally I think Man United's lack of players due to injury, suspention and competition will give them a start they will not recover from

My team (Birmingham City) should do well this year, can't wait for the season to start!

we've now got the class to in areas we lacked last season!

this is my ideal line up [web:df904ba457][Only registered and activated users can see links] &p0=dD6&p1=dD1&p2=dD3&p3=dM3&p4=dM8&p5=dM1&p6=dM7& p7=dM2&p8=dA3&p9=dA4[/web:df904ba457]

and finally Arsenal being the quality they are will come a very close second

my prediction

Chelsea
Arsenal
Liverpool
Man United
Birmingham City
Newcastle
Middlesborogh
Tottenham
Charlton
Aston Villa
Fulham

Yep but liverpool do get Nunez included in that price. A good move for Owen, i though the last few seasons he has?nt played the best he can. Liverpool may well be a better team without him, inspire them a little more. Barros should well score a few more now.
