Doesn't get more basic than this, on the second pic you can see the left speaker; there's another on the right, and I've used a steel wire contruction to make them hang free, only held by one single hook in the ceiling (special bolts, they can hold a man's weight each).
Perfect clear sound blasting right onto me while mixing

Also "Yao" its a great CD mixer. I love how you can make pitch adjustments on the fly without using the pitch bend buttons. You can really make amazing fine tune adjustments with mixes sounding extremely lush. All my mixes are now done with the CMX-3000. No more vinyl.

damn steve, when did you get that lawler banner...awesome.
a few years back when Lights Out 1 came out Lawler rolled through Atlanta with Jonathon Lisle. well we were pretty drunk and it was a four man operation of getting that banner. at first we started removing the tape slowly as it hung from a balcony we were chilling on. security noticed it was sagging and immediately came and applied more tape. well an hour or so later four of us positioned ourselves on this thing... i looked around and gave the order, Red Team GoGoGoGo. we got it off the balcony in a matter of seconds, i balled it up and shoved it in my cargo pants pocket and made my way down to the dance floor very quickly. made it home safely and i've had it ever since.

With my new mk2's, I figure I would only need 2 cd's to play for hours on end. Big advantage from the old cdj's that dont have that mp3 option. The mp3 folder search is the shit, easy to use, just load up your cd's accordingly with like 90 tracks on each one and your set!! :D

why in the world do you have the monitors over that far in the room, or do you always dj in your headphones?
as to fangstick, you really need to get yourself some risers for those speakers, along with some foam to put them on to keep vibrations down. Vibrations AKA Feedback...are the enemy of a great sound system.
xeb
May 15, 2006, 07:31:13 PM
the blue and the brown desk in that pic are at 90 degrees to each other and that pic makes the room a damn sight bigger than it is... the monitors are less than a metre if standing infront of the mixer. monitors are set up so sweet spot is in front of the pc... more critical for me now than prime position for mixing.

unless you know your tracks that well, not much of a fan of 90 tracks on 1 CD...sure it's nice and all ;) (and more compact), but standard audio still works especially if you play out.

"Standard audio".. ? watcha mean, .wav format and 5 tracks.?
Well I've done folders (house, tech house, progressive, funky & electro) That way the tracks aren't all bunched up. I would have to make a playlist just to make sure I dont play the same track twice.
Other than that, one should be fine with that many tracks on a cd.

didn't realize the reply got bumped lower then where I thought it would go.
Standard audio is just burning as a regular CD and putting several tracks on each one.
Some DJ's just have 1-3 tracks on each CD, others do more, I like to get around 8-10. I don't like full maxing time-wise since those outer tracks are the first to go/skip as the CD gets heavy use out of it.
Problem with burning straight MP3's is not every club has MP3-compatible CD decks yet...so you couldn't essentially play. And unless you know where the tracks are on a MP3 CD, cueing it up would be a bitch (note: fast cueing = hold track search and use the jog wheel on the Pioneer's; Denon's have that nice dial for track selecting)

Nice set ups
I am currently waiting for a neighbour to make me a stand, went through all the details, ie Turntable size, mixer etc, I liked a set up there with a laptop on the side, my stand will be up against the wall with 2 rows of vinyl on the bottom, not enough room so the rest is in the corner of the room, standing on shelves.
2 TT, Mixer, Sampler, Midi Contoller on top, amp tucked away underneath and eventually speakers hanging either side of me.
I would like to have my laptop on a slanting stand from the wall, Ie.... like a cdj etc...and use it when nessesary.
Funny thing was, he never imagined that so much vinyl existed, not that i have tons of the stuff but you know its not exactly a common thing these days, even in Djing.

Well Im in the process of re-arranging my bedroom to accomodate all my equipment. I recently purchased a new mixer and 2 cdj 800mk2's, so no I have no room for my Techniques.
I have a long desk that would fit everything, but Im using it for my computer, amp/receiver and 5 disc cd player.
1 big shelf (5 rows) full of vinyl I will need to move accross the other side to move desk where that's at.
I need a camera too.

haven't had any driver problems at all. I've only been using Midi Out of the xone to the computer, and I might have read that going the other way was problematic, but can't remember. But yea, never had the xone or my computer crash... at least I don't think soo..... hmmm...
Actually my computer crashed a few times in the last couple of months, and now that I think about it it was after I got the xone (but also after I moved). but it never happened when the xone was plugged in... I'm not sure if it's possible that it could have caused that...
oh, looking at the xone site looks like they released new drivers! Hope they fix my crashes (if they were even related)...

I have to ask...what makes a person want to buy a mixer with that many faders and that BIG of a mixer. I remember seeing Sasha in the DH DVD with one of those with 4 1200's hooked up, which was sweet.

Who the hell needs two drum machines running at the same time. That's kind of stupid as you can always just have the one for all your tracks. Dj's don't make music complicated enough to need two drum machines. And Richie Hawtin is the ONLY DJ I've ever heard of that uses a drum machine with his sets...least he used to.
The rest I can understand, but there were decks hooked up to it, not synths.

Umm... are you serious? Ok - maybe this will clear it up. I'm a producer, and a DJ, so I must now be able to handle more than one drum machine at once. ;)
Tell me then, genius, what would be the easiest way to mix from one of your own tracks to another? Oh... right... two drum machines...
Richie seems to be the only DJ the YOU HAVE EVER HEARD of using a drum machine in a mix set. That doesn't mean that there arnt many, many more you havnt.

Also - some other benefits of using a 464 'just' for DJing...
Insert points on the main outs - used for vocal ducking in the radio station.
Separate feeds to a recorder - So you can record the same set, with, and without announcements.

I've been thinking of eventually getting an 800. But i'd like to customize it to where the eq knobs can cut out 100% of the sound. That's one of the things I love about the new Urei and Mackie mixers. But neither have the effects like Pioneer does it. Gotta love that delay.

Just finished listening to your march promo. Nice mix bud. 8) Do you use an external sound card to record your mix?
jeffrey collins
January 24, 2007, 08:33:11 PM
That was probably the last mix that I got to record directly into my MiniDisc. I'm working on a new mix that I'm doing solely in ableton. I miss the spontanious collaging of tracks.
Thanks.

is nice indeed... the one thing that I always differ on tho is the whole part about directly facing the wall. Dunno why, but I always gotta turn things so that I'm face out into the room... :)

Well I finally got around to taking pics with my cell phone. This is after I "remodeled" by bedroom. painting the walls a light blue, scraped the ceiling foam etc, etc. :p

:p Yes some vegetation is always great.
One speaker is on top of the record shelf and the other is placed on the other side of the room (in front of monitors) atop another mini shelf of vinyl.
I guess I should have taken pics of that as well. I'll do that later today, gonna bet on some horsies at Santa Anita in a while. :)

THANKS!!! The pcv-275 is great. its the mixer that i should've gotten first but opted for a cheaper stanton POS. it have the rotary kit for it, so its given me the ability to learn both linear and rotary styles of mixing. at the moment, im at a point where i've outgrown it and want to upgrade to the DJM-800 and add a pair of CDJ1000s this year.

What speakers are those? :)
they are an unreleased prototype KRK. HAHAHA, yeah i wish. they are a pair of sony bookshelf speakers that i bought for like $100 at best buy. i have no complaints though, they work and sound good, and have a solid low-end punch.
oh and they are sitting atop some old 15" kenwood floorstanding speakers that are about 10 years old.

yeah, most people ask me where i found 3 way KRKs. i wish i could play it off like that, but im just not the type to lie. truth be told, im really happy with them and will not be swapping them out till i can afford some mackie HR824s.

^^ Thanks man... yeah not yet as I'm waiting for my laptop stand to be built over the top of the desk. I guess then, my next purchase will be abelton 6. I'm going to have a play around with it on the weekend to see how it works with traktor and whether it will interface with reason.
I would love to get any tips from others who have the DJM800 already
