Hey all i was thinking of buying and getting into mp3 mixing. The reason for this is that vinyl is getting a bit expensive for me and it would be good if i could get used to using one as i have never used one before. I would still use vinyl but this would give me a bit more of an upper hand if i could use both i think.
Anyway does anyone on here have any cd decks. I am sure alot of u have. sowhat i would like to know which one do u guy's recommend. I don't want a top of the line expensive one just a avg to above avg in price. I was thinking of getting a denon one but my arm can easlily be twisted. Thanks in advance for any help :D

i really enjoy my CDJ-200's. they're about $385 a piece. They take elements from the more expensive 1000's and the 800's plus they have the zip, wah, and jet effects from the DJM-600 mixer. over all the best for the price imo.

I prefer the Pioneer cdj200 above the cdj800. It's more accurate and has some cool FX :)

cdj 200's are better than 800's and 1000's in some respects.
the loop is fucking magnificent. also the efx can be used during the loops so thats fun.
i've been pushing the 200's on people ever since i got mine. hambino got 2 upon my reccomendation and well, you see he's happy!
listen to the Jib and life will be swell.

denon is greater, better, sounds real good.
pioneer is to much expensive & sounds horrible.

i guess you and i will agree to disagree fangstick.

I started a thread about the denon dns 5000's alpha track feature, but maybe i'll get more response here. Does anyone have experience mixing with the alpha track? It uses a little knob for the alpha track pitch, just wondered how smooth it is

Hmmm, what about this new toy from pioneer [Only registered and activated users can see links] I just stumbled across it, not sure if it's really ideal for actual mixing or just people who want to mess around in their home. The description leaves many questions

Easy now Fangstick, before you go and step in shit! I have your back on this one Jib! First off a company (like Denon) can toss in all the bells and whistles they want but when it comes down to dependibility and sound quality, Pioneer raine supreme! All those bells and whistles don't mean shit if there broke! You probably would defend Behringer for there stuff to, Huh!

congratulations on all those specs and stats fangstick, but honestly some pubic hair from a 12 year old boy is more interesting.
its all a matter of personal opinion.
and denons SUCK!
PS the vbr encoding is very easy to get around. have you heard of sound forge? re-encoding is marvelous!

CDJ 200's are dope! I might get a pair. Played with them at Guitar center and i LOVED them.
i have CDJ 800s and i am very fond of them as well. They do the trick for straight DJing. Im not a fan of EFX at all so that feature could go out the window. What i love about the 800's is the automatic loops.
every club i play at basically has the 1000's and of course they are the standard.
if you are on a budget, DEF. go for the 200's. If u can spring the extra 200 ea. go for the 800's or the 800 MKII that just came out so u can get used to the feel of the standard club CD players.
cheers!

The Middle Path is the way to go... 800 MK1 or MK2, worth every penny IMO. My friend got a Denon CDJ and he is regretting ever doing so... it's a fucking fisher price toy that feels like a cheap hooker's tits.

looks like a wack-ass 100...don't think SD cards are yet exactly the wave of the future; good for cue point storages now...

i'm actually using a pair of american audio single cd decks...along with my 600, I've been pretty happy with them, and I bought each of them for around $90 each. Though I do want a CDJ-1000MK3 someday.

if you do actually want to play MP3's, for what you're looking for in price ranges, then it's probably Pioneer 200 or Denon 1000...

did the MKII finally hit yet?
MAP's at 699; DJ Deals has 'em for 599, and for even less take karaokedepot.com that I got from DJVeo and order a 1000 MKI for 539...(USD)..depends on where you live too I suppose.

I personally have the cjd-1000's and they are amazing... I havn't used any of the xtra features that come with them, SO-I must admit that I spent too much money on features I don't, and won't use... However, what was very important to me, was how similar to the vinyl "feel" and response. I read a few threads on this, and most people said they had a better response than the cdj-800's... I totally wish I had the opportunity to try both and see for myself before spending the extra loot, but nonetheless, I'm pleased.
As for all the looping, fx, etc, that some decks/mixers have: I simply don't want to mess up someone else's production work with an annoying flanger carrying on... Sure it can be fun tooling around with noises and making something repeat...but really, it's annoying to hear sometimes. Just an opinion....

I was wondering with CDJ's will they play a data disk of mp3 tracks
or do you have to make a regular cd of tracks
or will it play both?
Jibgolly
October 19, 2006, 01:53:41 PM
the cdj 200's do. and i think the newest version of the cdj 800's do too. of course these are pioneer products. only problem with playing mp3 discs on the 200's is that they dont allow you to ff/rr or cue VBR encoded tracks. not sure about the 800's in this case though.
no idea if other cdj makers offer this option.

200's, 800 MKII's & 1000 MKIII's are the ones...200's are dodgy on cueing, as I don't believe they allow frame scans for it (got to kind of "guess" on it). 800 or 1000's should be precise on it like you would on a CD, maybe searching through the track might be a little dodgy at times.
It's not the same really...a bad data burn instead of jumps/skips in the track would give you digital "garbles" which believe me, don't sound too hot on a decent system...

it sounds like staying away from the mp3 data disks is the safer bet :)

well, for maybe a here and there thing it's not a bad idea...I'm just not keen on when that's how you're doing you're whole set and the like...besides, are you really going to remember what track #89 is on that disc unless you have a printout? ;) But the biggest kicker imo is if you have, say the 1000 MKIII's at home w/your MP3 discs, and you go to a club to play that doesn't...you're screwed bigtime.
