    RENAISSANCE w/

DAVE SEAMAN (UK) & JODY WISTERNOFF (UK) [Way Out West]

    ‘Masters Series’ Album Launch Party

Friday 7th Oct @ Roxanne Parlour

Renaissance are back in Melbourne after a long hiatus with one of its most recognised and celebrated artists, Dave Seaman for the launch of his brand new ‘Master Series’ CD. This will be the first release from Renaissance in over a year & it’s the first party Melbourne has seen in nearly four years! The CD will be on sale Oct 10 and no doubt promises to be packed full of the freshest and most upfront underground music on offer. For those unfortunate souls who have never experienced a Renaissance Party before, you should not only expect the highest quality of music (that’s a given) but just as importantly is the decor, sound and lighting which will all be specifically tailored for this event. Along with that there will be T-shirts and CD’s given away on the night, (how good is that!!). This is such a rare opportunity to experience one of the world’s biggest music brands do what they do; you’d be crazy to miss it.

After smashing Summadayze this year, Seaman is back for his first club show since his incredible set at at Darkbeat’s 5th Bday and he’s chomping at the bit to remind us what has made him one of the scenes most popular DJ’s for over 20 years! Alongside him we have another veteran of the scene, Jody Wisternoff (one half of the acclaimed Way Out West) consistently produces performances of the highest quality, year in and year out and we are privileged to have the opportunity to tour him once again. For those of you who saw Jody’s show last August will know how special he really is.... Now put them both together under the RENAISSANCE banner and you have a recipe for one hell of an amazing night.

    Dave Seaman

There aren’t many artists who’ve sound tracked the birth of dance music and are still leading its development more than two decades later. There are even less who have gifted both the club and pop scenes with unforgettable musical moments that get talked about in hushed tones years after their creation. Dave Seaman is one of a select few.
Whether it’s one of his spine-tingling Global Underground or Renaissance CDs that’s still burning a hole in your stereo years after its purchase, or the perfect pop of Kylie’s ‘Confide In Me’ that he wrote, produced and remixed, there’s very few with their heart in electronic music who haven’t had a Dave Seaman ‘moment’.
It’s a commonality that everyone from clubbers at Creamfields, to the biggest recording artists on the planet share. Having devoted almost every weekend over the last 15 years to moving dancefloors from Ibiza to Iceland, Seaman has played the world’s most recognised festivals and clubs in more than 70 countries throughout his career, while still lending his production nous to the music industry’s A List. Along with crafting beats for Ms Minogue, Take That and Pet Shop Boys have enlisted his studio expertise, with everyone from U2, to Michael Jackson, Alanis Morissette, David Bowie and New Order having received a Seaman re-rub.
Make no mistake, his talents are unique. Few artists are able harness the creative complexity of an underground club burner and interchange it with the hook-driven dynamics of a pop cut, but Seaman has managed to do it time and time again. With massive discography of more than 60 releases and 30 remixes, his productions have gone on to feature on more than 80 other titles, released all over the globe.
Wind the clock back to when Seaman was eight years old and it’s difficult to imagine anyone wanting to devote their life to music quite as much as the Leeds-born lad. While others indulged in pipe dreams of becoming an English Premier League star or following Neil Armstrong into space, Seaman – much to his career councilor’s disapproval – knew he was destined for a life full of beats and rhythm.
By the early ‘80s, the music obsessive was spinning records at his high school disco and earning his pocket money playing weddings and birthday parties. He knew how to talk-the-talk, too. In 1987 the still-amateur DJ and DMC member won a trip to New York to attend the New Music Seminar – the industry’s most important event at that time. The trip ultimately led him to land the editor’s role at Mixmag, a position he’d hold for the next three years as he shaped the magazine into being the undisputed clubber’s bible it is today.
Seaman played his first bona-fide professional DJ gig at the legendary Shellys in Stoke in 1990, stroking vinyl alongside a couple of emerging talents by the name of Sasha and Laurent Garnier. Acid house was blooming and Seaman’s boundless enthusiasm and creative spirit was petrol in its tank.
Teaming up with producer and friend Steve Anderson, the duo recorded as Brothers In Rhythm, birthing the seminal rave anthem ‘Such A Good Feeling’ which became a UK Top 20 hit, while also issuing the landmark ‘Mixmag Live Volume’ 1 with Carl Cox in 1991 – a release that stands as one of the first ever commercially available mix compilations.
Seaman’s unrelenting desire to propel music at all levels saw him kickstart the Stress Records imprint through DMC, showcasing tunes by some of the finest talent in dance music for more than a decade. Artists including Sasha, Danny Tenaglia, John Digweed and Groove Armada’s Andy Cato all released smoking club cuts on the label, with many crediting it as acting as a global launching pad for their careers.
Today, Seaman’s passion to exhibit boundary-breaking talent is as strong as ever. Via his independent label Audio Therapy, his inspired A&R has helped nurture some of the finest groove-merchants in dance music. The label’s roster speaks for itself, with Popof, Timo Mass, Pig & Dan, Tiger Stripes and Robert Babicz all contributing tracks and remixes recently.
Without a doubt, his relationship with Renaissance is one of the most renowned in dance music, with Seaman having contributed 10 mixes to the revered series. Global Underground view the Brit in a similarly lofty light, having secured his services to mix their Melbourne, Buenos Aires and Cape Town volumes.
30 years on from that initial boyhood dream, the places and people may have changed, but Seaman’s passion hasn’t. As busy as ever, he still continues to create. Whether it’s through his own productions (check his recent stunning double A-sider ‘Attack Of The Abalones/Wrong Side Business’, along with collaborations with Josh Gabriel and Andy Chatterley) or his growing list of revered compilations, you know Seaman’s always on the frontline of electronic house music.

    Jody Wisternoff

Between breaking through to the DMC Hip Hop finals as a fresh faced 13 year old in 1986, and putting the finishing touches to his band's fourth studio album in 2009 a lot has happened. His early 90's act Sub Love were one of the largest draws on the UK Rave festival circuit and his historic hook up with Bristol DJ Nick Warren in 1994 resulted in epic prog house outfit Way Out West. With big singles (The Gift/ Ajare/ Mindcircus/ Killa) the majors came running to the duo and it produced their enormously prolific remix period. Aside from Way Out West's recording success, as a DJ in the early '90s Jody could be seen behind the decks at massive raves like Universe. In addition, he acquired a 3 year residency at Bristol's seminal Lakota Club and was also found collaborating with Die of Roni Size's Full Cycle Crew.
In the past few years, Jody has continued to travel to Asia, Australia, South America, Mexico, Canada and beyond spreading his own and the Way out West sound. Recent solo ventures have seen him release on such prolific labels as Anjunadeep, Witty Tunes and Dirty Soul. Jody is characterized by his quest for the perfect beat and bass line, the need to layer the best string, to squeeze the most perfect note from the technology available, to match the best track for the best moment at the right party. And it's that constant desire for perfection that drives him on and on.

Dave was amazing last night and so was Australia's best export Kasey Taylor. Was not a huge fan of what Jody was playing, but hey, everyones different. Great party.

          I only had one problem:

          1. Why on earth were there 3 rooms?? Why wouldn't you have one room and pack it out? Silly.
I felt the main room for Dave should have been a lot more packed than it was because of this. Dave Seaman is still going strong.

^^^ You should know it doesn't work like that The guys that sold the tickets need somewhere to play.

My attitude to Jody is strange. I would say that his style of music was not mine. But two out of the three times I have seen him I've really enjoyed him . He's really good fun I gave him last night by a whisker over Dave. Mainly because I thought Dave was trying a little too hard to start with. But he got over it quickly and ended up playing a great set. In fact I didn't want either of them to stop

I only caught a little of Kasey, so really can't judge.
