    Google Drive

Access Google Drive with a Google account (for personal use) or Google Workspace account (for business use).

Drive finally came out today.Pretty cheap too. 25GB for only $5/month, and 100GB for $5/month. That is pretty kick ass. And it syncs with Google Docs too.

    Definitely a good option.

So now what are we gonna use to share files between [ms] users?

"Drive is built to work seamlessly with your overall Google experience. You can attach photos from Drive to posts in Google+, and soon you’ll be able to attach stuff from Drive directly to emails in Gmail. Drive is also an open platform, so we’re working with many third-party developers so you can do things like send faxes, edit videos and create website mockups directly from Drive. To install these apps, visit the Chrome Web Store—and look out for even more useful apps in the future."

Google ToS: "When you upload or otherwise submit content to our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content."

Dropbox ToS: "By using our Services you provide us with information, files, and folders that you submit to Dropbox (together, “your stuff”). You retain full ownership to your stuff. We don’t claim any ownership to any of it. These Terms do not grant us any rights to your stuff or intellectual property except for the limited rights that are needed to run the Services, as explained below."

          Yeah, fuck that.

^If you look close that Google ToS is *everywhere* on almost all services you sign up for in some form of the other. Dropbox reworded theirs after someone made a big stink about it a while back and make it more human friendly, but what it really is saying is that you give them permission to display your content on their website when you goto your google drive web interface, or if you share stuff with other people you are giving Google permission to do so.

I don't remember where the writeups were about this stink a while back, but what I said above is basically the gist of it.

How is this going to be different the docs? You can already upload any file type and share it.

This lets you have an app on your mac/pc/linux/phone and copy files to a special dir and they will get uploaded/downloaded automatically. No web only interface anymore.

I'm surprised there is no mention of Drive being integrated with Gmail, eg. would make sense that email attachments are now automatically hosted in Drive. Would be pretty cool if you can set up filters or use + keywords in email addresses to automatically filter attachments to Drive folders of your choosing.

From the blogpost it mentioned that coming soon you will be able to integrate content directly from dive with gmail. Should be pretty cool. I think this integration is where they might get a bit of a leg up on dropbox. Plus they are aggressively pricing this lower than them also which should bring prices down overall I hope.

But all that said, Google Drive launches with some standout features on day one. It's not enough to cause a tidal wave of users switching over, but it could be over time. The video processing, image recognition and OCR should pique the interest of Evernote users. The Gmail integration could dramatically simplify file sharing. And we'll see what those iOS apps are like when they come out, although Google's track record there is not great.

Not available to me yet, but I'm excited to play with it. I have no worries about putting content up that I didn't create (mixsets) since they aren't taking any rights away from me.

                          services/options/prices compared

Sometimes a table says a thousand words. Now that Google has finally announced its cloud service, Google Drive, we're sure more than a few of you are crunching the numbers in your head in an attempt to figure which is the best deal. Far be it for us to tell you which service to use when we've barely had a chance to poke around Drive, but for now, better if we lay out those gigabytes and dollars in number form, rather than squeeze them into a crowded paragraph, don'tcha think? Follow past the break for a brief breakdown of what you'll get from Google, along with Dropbox, Microsoft SkyDrive and iCloud.

The pricing for Google Drive is pretty baller. The OCR and integration with gmail and docs could be killer.
