    Release Notes:

    01. Kasper Bjørke - TNR feat. Jaakko Eino Kal (Superpitcher Chapter A Remix) [hfn Music | hfn36]

Kasper Bjørke is poised to return with his exquisite new album, ‘After Forever’, which is already tipped as the Danish producer’s boldest and most elegant statement to date, with Clash Magazine laying down these words: 'Kasper Bjørke definitely makes art. Each production feels assured with the Scandinavian impacting a genuine sense of the cerebral into his music.'

The scene for ‘After Forever’ has been set by two EPs: ‘Rush’ featuring Tobias Buch, ‘Sylvia’ featuring CTM, and now the third instalment ‘TNR’, which reveals another exciting collaboration with recent Domino Records and Beats In Space signing Jaakko Eino Kalevi. Jaako is an 'original weirdo, songwriter, crooner, analogue lover and a blessed lyricist'. According to The Guardian he is‚ the most impressive 'rock‘n‘roll‘ artist with an alternate simultaneous 'proper' job that we‘ve heard of since Vic Godard the post-punk postman. The Finnish 29-year-old has been releasing records back home, while being a tram driver in Helsinki‘.

Chiming with effervescent synths, melodic flourishes and crisp, rough-hewn beats, ‘TNR’ is a poignant post-disco beauty, and now comes accompanied with a trio of standout remixes: Kompakt stalwart Superpitcher leads the charge, with a double whammy of reworks that apply his killer pop instincts to the mix. His ‘Chapter A Remix’ zeros in on the track’s ‘last days of disco’ feel, with a down tempo treatment of retro hypnotism, punctuated with the classic Superpitcher beat.

His ‘Chapter B Remix’ then functions like a disco dub, bringing conga percussion and shakers to the forefront with an extra dose of swing, leading towards a wall of synth sound at the track’s end.

Kasper Bjørke’s own '20 Weeks Rework’ completes the circle of this trio of interpretations, pointing the spotlight towards the light filled synths, guitar licks and the touching, melancholic pop vocals over an almost urban beat. The stunning lo-fi hand animated music video accompaniment from Netherlands' Alpaca Animations that will premiere around the release date of the single, is a perfect visualisation of the feeling evoked by the short and simple lyrical hook: "Times New Roman, Times of Love / I Want To Go Into The Deeper Shadows."

    Released by: HFN Music
    Release/catalogue number: hfn36
    Release date: 18 August 2014

    02. Maher Daniel - A Call From Within (Martin Buttrich Dub Mix) [No.19 Music | NO19049]

Following on from the critically acclaimed debut album from Louie Fresco released this summer, No.19 Music turn to Maher Daniel for a stunning new single that comes with heavyweight remixes from two of the best names in the game, Martin Buttrich and Subb An.

Montreal’s Maher Daniel is now starting to get the props he deserves having served up an increasingly refined slew of releases on quality labels like Circus recordings and Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream. Daniel has also previously appeared on the essential No.19 Music, contributing a standout track to the ‘5 Years of No.19 Music’ compilation earlier in the year. As resident at the famous Stereo club in his hometown, Daniel is also a respected DJ who has a deep understanding of dancefloor dynamics as evidenced by this stunning new release.

‘A Call From Within’ is a truly humid and steamy slice of house music with hints of tropical jungle drums and tumbling toms making for a rich organic groove. Tinkling keys, synth tension and magical breakdowns all bring an ethereal depth to proceedings, taking the listener to another dimension; crafting music as sensuous and emotive as this whilst bringing such energy to the dancefloor is no mean feat.

First to remix is Martin Buttrich, a long time production genius who has helped Loco Dice over the years as well as serving up his own essential EPs on labels like Desloat and Supplemental Facts. His first remix is a spooky, spacious affair with a nice loose groove, tons of atmospheric production and a warm, humid air that makes it perfect for lazy afternoons in Ibiza. His second dub mix is busier, with a burrowing baseline, slinky percussion and a serious dub quotient propping up the whole thing in fantastic style.

Also contributing a remix is One Records and Crosstown Rebels associate Subb-An, who is as adept at playing live as he is weaving chunky DJ sets everywhere from BPM to Fabric. His killer version is riddled with gentle toms, is rooted with firm kicks and has scurrying little effects, steel drums and hugely inviting hi hats all making for a devilishly late night floorfiller that demands you dance along; it’s super special and evocative electronic music that stands proud of the competition.

In giving him his own platform, No 19. Music show deserving faith in the ever rising star that is Maher Daniel and the music he serves up as a result is certainly his finest to date.

    Release/catalogue number: NO19049
    Release date: 8 September 2014

    03. Luca Lozano - The Fox (Isolation Distorts LP) [100% Silk | SILK-070]

Berlin-based label impresario and shapeshifting selector Luca Lozano has sounded a lot of ways over his seven odd 12 inches (for his own Klasse Recordings, plus Optimo, Morris/Audio, etc), but Isolation Distorts spawns from the sensation of solitude warping reality, and the results may be his most skewed and striking to date. Wheezing sci-fi samples ebb into martian techno expanses; quiet organ melodies lilt under lunar acid; dead-end synth-pop burrows into creeped craters of dust.

Lozano's pacing emphasis patience, loops and melodies hung across long alien canyons, pivoting from one tranced conspiracy passage to another. The collection pivots positive toward the end, planetary shadow receding to a jazzed breakbeat solar sunrise ("Lifting Forward"), which eventually turns bold moon acid boogie ("The Fox"). Overall, an oxygen-drunk six-pack of general utility space station house music by a man with a plan.

Mastered by Josh "Alter Echo" Derry. Edition of 100.
    Release date: 26 August 2014

    [Inhale Review]

Klasse Recordings head honcho Luca Lozano drops ‘Isloation Distorts’ on 100% Silk this August.

Fresh from a debut release on the famous Optimo Trax imprint Luca Lozano joins the 100% Silk family for the first time this summer with a heavy hitting six-track EP. Luca has had a busy summer as always manning the helm of Berlin-based Klasse Recordings alongside friend and label partner Mr. Ho yet somehow keeps up his personal endeavours stack up at an equally impressive rate with forthcoming releases on Sex Tags UFO (with DJ Fett Burger) and Throne of Blood with Mr. Ho.

With six cuts on offer this dynamic EP from Lozano arguably has enough tracks to be dubbed a mini album, but as a single the vibrant collection is a perfect mix of fiery kinetic techno, ambient slow burning electronica and raw punchy house.

The contrast of the trippy whacked out rhythm and mechanic modulations of ‘Extra Telest’ compared to the esoteric almost ambient offering in ‘Listing Forward’ keep you locked in from start to finish and the diverse nature of this release is one its most striking aspects.

Special mention goes to the ‘The Fox’ – a sublime slow burning cut, cultivated to simmer on low heat to reach a slamming crescendo of acid and shifting percussion around the five minute mark, a smooth and dynamic closer that round off the EP in style.

    04. David Pher - Normcore (Philip Bader Remix) (The Wanted EP) [Gruuv | GR 035]

This September Audiojack’s Gruuv label returns with a four-track package from David Pher, entitled ‘The Wanted’ and backed with a Philip Bader remix.

Berlin, Germany based producer David Pher aka David Otterbein has made quite the mark over his five year standing in electronic music, kicking off his career with a split release alongside Two Armadillos via Tsuba, which led to cuts appearing on ViVa, Back & Forth and a collaborative remix with Andre Crom of DJ W!ld for OFF Recordings. Here, we see David join the Gruuv roster, slotting him alongside recent material from Cera Alba, Copy Paste Soul and Dale Howard, and adding another impressive release to his back catalogue.

David Pher kicks off ‘The Wanted’ EP with ‘Normcore’, a classic meets contemporary number embracing a hip-house aesthetic with an amalgamation of vocal snippets driving the groove, while the stabbing sub hits and penetrative low-end tones add a modern spin to things and opens up the release with a bang. Title cut’ The Wanted’ follows this, and here we see Pher employ an elongated sub line, swinging rhythms, percussive rumbles and murmuring, processed vocals to create a hypnotizing, ever-blossoming composition.

On the flip of the release we have a third and final original from David entitled ‘Footsteps’, embracing a raw, stripped style this time with the drum programming, leaving the sound palette open for the tom- driven bass hook and emotive vocal lines to shimmer. The package is then rounded off with an interpretation of ‘Normcore’ from Philip Bader, the Highgrade artist offers up a typically classy rework, tipping the focus towards a chuggy bass hook, mind-bending resonant sweeps and heady shuffled snares.

    06. Filsonik - Dogfish [Hot Creations | HOTC049]

Filsonik, one of New York’s finest old school underground DJ/producers is down to make his debut on the illustrious Hot Creations imprint after his regular appearances at Circo Loco DC10 and close relationship with the Martinez Brothers brought him into orbit with Jamie Jones et al. A staple in Jamie’s sets at the moment and always creating a major impact on the dance floor, ‘Dogfish’ is testament to Filsonik’s nuanced production skills and flair for a killer groove and a ridiculously infectious swagger. Ever in demand, master remixer Jamie draws upon his classic persuasion for free styling wonkiness and rowdy bass-lines on the B side. Warping the original into darker territory and bleeping the beats into submission. Expect to hear bother version everywhere this summer.

Filsonik career as a producer started in 2006 under the wing of New York’s veteran house DJ Timmy Regisford of Club Shelter, a legendary weekly house night that ran for fifteen years. Co-productions with Regisford on Shelter’s label Unrestricted Tracks and Restricted Tracks showcased Filsonik’s sound. Fast forward to 2014 and Filsonik is still a close collaborator with fellow NYC Puerto Rican artists, uniting with The Martinez Brothers and Point G for the massive ‘What’s The Point?’ on Ever Lasting LOVE.

Jamie Jones, label head of the pioneering Hot Creations imprint, mastermind behind the decks and one fourth of the Hot Natured is still on top of his game and one of the best loved DJs on the circuit. After being voted as number one DJ in the world in 2012 by Resident Advisor, running the extremely popular Paradise events, now in their third season at DC10 Ibiza and tirelessly touring the globe, Jamie Jones is still the boss and will soon be seeing in the 50th release with something special. Watch this space.

    09. Alex Niggemann - Tarkus (Earth Symphony EP) [Last Night On Earth | LNOE031]

Alex Niggemann's debut EP on the label. After his amazing Materium EP, which is still going strong, he releases his Earth Symphony EP. The Title track just keeps the epicness of Materium but changes the flow into a total different experiences, while still being incredible entertaining to listen to. Some might argue, this is his best production, yet. These are definitely two of the most interesting tracks we've heard from him.

Re: Transitions 521 ● John Digweed with a guest mix by Audiofly

Track 5 is described as a cheeky mashup of the Traveller dialogue.

    Linked to this project:

John Digweed & Nick Muir Feat John Twelve Hawks - 3B3

"I first listened to British-born DJ John Digweed on his weekly two-hour “Transitions” show (syndicated around the world and on the Internet). We chatted online, then met in London. After a series of conversations with John’s studio partner, Nick Muir, the three of us came up with the idea of using narrated passages from The Traveler as the basis for some tracks.

As well as being renowned producers in the field of electronic dance music, John Digweed and Nick Muir regularly create music for film and television — including a feature track for the movie Trainspotting. Both John and Nick are excited about this latest project and relish the creative challenge it presents.

3B3 is the drug given to the character Michael Corrigan that triggers his first experience of crossing over into different realms. Using the theme provided by a passage in the novel, John and Nick have created a tripped-out psychedelic house track the really captures and represents the mood of this moment."
