    Re: Soulseek Question

http://testic.demon.co.uk/slsktest/ - quite usefull link, you have slsk diagnostics - you can see if your port is opened or not

2234 and 5534 are the ports for Soulseek. Turn off XP Firewall and install soemthing like Norton INternet security.

I'm at work right now, and the corporate firewall blocks connection to the slsk server. I can check it when I get home.

If you do have a new router, you definitely need to refer to your router's manual or help file to get information about excluding ports for the firewall. If you don't have the manual, they can be found on the manufacturer's website... you probably bought on of the three below:

    D-Link: http://www.dlink.com
    Netgear: http://www.netgear.com
    SMC: http://www.smc.com

I recommend disabling your XP firewall if you have an external firewall/router, and allowing TCP port 2234 in your router. You can refer to your manual for instructions for doing it.

ok ive tried to and turned the firewall off and that doesnt seem to work, im not too familiar with the second part to what you said pickle... in terms of having a new router, yes we do, but now with the whole default stuff i dont know how to open the soulseek ports to the internet... i went into the firewall in control panel where i turned the firewall off... went into Exceptions, tried it with the Program Soulseek checked off and on and neither seemed to work... the error happens with some people but not others, and i added myself to my own Userlist in soulseek and i keep getting a File error... my user name is m_sovran on slsk if u want to have a look what u get when u look into my files... thanks for your help guys, ill keep fiddling around and keep u posted... cheers

Did you just install WindowsXP Service Pack 2? If so it's probably because you have your firewall turned on, which means nobody can query your computer for your file list. To turn it off, go to your Start Menu, click Control Panel, click Windows Firewall, click Off, and click OK.

The same problem could happen with a hardware firewall/router if you just hooked up a local/wireless router for your home. If that's the case, you need to open the Soulseek ports to the Internet. Allow all traffic for TCP port 2234. If you don't know how to manage your firewall, the default firewall management address is http://192.168.0.1/ . From what I've seen the default login username/password for most personal firewalls is usually either admin/[blank] or admin/default or admin/password. If this doesn't work, refer to your firewall manual.

Were you testing the "error trying to get file list" error with only one friend on slsk, or multiple people? The problem could lie on the other user's side, rather than yours. If that's the case, have your friend check out the situations above.

    Hope this helps dude.

    Soulseek Question

For over a week now everytime anyone tries to lok through the files I am sharing on Soulseek it says "Error trying to get file list". I think I've tried everyway possible in order to stop this, ive shared with everyone as well as people only in my user list, changed the paths of sharing and everything, wondering if there is something I can do or something that is blocking people from seeing my shared files... I cant even see them when i look at them myself... any help at all would be great... cheers
Working...
