Hell yeah Zen...really nice system. I'm an Intel guy and I would consider that setup in a heartbeat. You right about the 6800GTs...best price to performance ratio maybe ever. My brother just got one and I'm getting one in a week or so.I saw those Seagates on NewEgg too. You can't beat those for the price. I'm seeing at least one in my near future.

I would try to come up with a system but -e- pretty much summed it up for me. The only thing I could do was jack the price up another $1000 by adding niceties like an Extreme Edition, A PC Power and Cooling PSU and a liquid cooling case. Not much else left.

ummm that budget CPU can be overclocked MORE than your 3.2 / 3.4 / 3.6 ghz box.... more value for money...

Can these speeds be achieved with regular air cooling?

That system is pretty similar to what Maximum PC put in the Dream Machine this year. Biggest difference is the CPU. They got a 3.6GHz Prescott up to 3.97GHz without liquid cooling, which I thought was amazing.

Personally I would have gone with Logitechs instead of Klipschs. That's about the only thing I would have changed though. Is the video PCI-Express? And yes, that Asus is the best motherboard money can buy. Built in Wi-Fi, 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, Firewire II and 3 RAID controllers. Worth every penny.

that is an excellent debatable issue, most overclockers like to do it as a hobby, not an obsession, you could pick up a liquid nitrogen cooling kit and O/C the thing to 5 ghz right ?? right.... but shit like that is NOT commerically available through online vendors and not very easy to get a hold of.

Assembling it and making sure it works is another nightmare altogether.... in the post, I did state that this this PC is built from parts parts currently / publicly available so that would exclude custom built extreme cooling options...

the PC I built was more for everyday + gaming use, rather than build the most powerful PC from a pentium IV chip....

but I like your arguement, it made me step back and think about my statement too

But if money is no object, as the title suggests, why not buy the top processor, like an extreme edition or whatever, and overclock to 5Ghz, with twice the cache size. Value for money is different from the best that money can buy...

Definatly go for another psu like an OCZ Powerstream 520, those Antec's are so much overrated.

Or Tagan, Sparkle and Topower make v good psu's too.

Don't beleive in the Antec marketing hype

And please Intel ?? you got to be kidding me Amd is where it's at performance/power consumption wise.

Edit 2.8C 512K cpu's aren't available in 775 socket, so you will get a 1mb cache chip which is slower and gets a lot hotter, do you want it to act as a space heater ?
