Re: how do djs/producers choose their song titles?
C'mon 'Project 3' is a great title...very original. Actually where did you come up with 'Log Chopper' for the name of your remix of 'Ground Down'?
how do djs/producers choose their song titles?

no, i haven't heard anything directly from him or anyone associated with him. and for a while i was a little anxious thinking he might be annoyed about it...did you ever get an Email from BT or his management about the title? I always wondered this.
but somebody told me that they were talking about it with him and he just laughed at it and said something to the effect of "why is everyone so obsessed with my hair?"
i imagine he'd take it well. i mean, it's not a vicious name or anything.
and i don't mean any disrespect by it. it's all in good fun.
some of my favorite track titles:
Mr. Barcode "I am a Robot - I am Afraid of Spoons"
OMNI A.M. "Smurfette's Big Night"
Marky Star "Takin' Out Your Mom" (Daddy Don't Know Mix)
Marky Star "Takin' Out Your Mom" (Your Sister's Down Too Mix)
Musical Journey, i like this one:
"Suck It"

Being a bit of a n00b producer myself i find it difficult to name some of my attempts at tracks. I find myself naming them by the first thing that pops into my head at the time. I have quite a few stupid ones too.

Not bad ya know

But the one i have going now which i like is called Mercurynights.Leave a comment:

@ markystar
anyone taking electronic tracknames overly seriously should be shot.
in terms of inspiration for track names sometimes all it takes is a cat spitting up a furball

Re: how do djs/producers choose their song titles?
most of my titles are meaningless or just plain silly...
i mean, on one level, it's mostly instrumental music.
there isn't any "deep meaning" involved in most dance music, after all, tracks are primarily dj tools (as opposed to 'songs').
so, they don't even really NEED titles...
but in the end, you DO have to call it something, otherwise people woudn't know how to discuss it -- or even finding it in your record bag could be tricky. imagine doing a chart or tracklisting without a title!
i've always been struck by many titles of works of visual art at the art museum:
Studies in Blue
Magenta #5
and the like...
i thought these were cool, because what's the purpose of titling an abstract work of art? it doesn't *have* to have a name. the work is what the work is.
but museums, collectors, galleries all want a name so they can inventory, catalog, discuss, sell, whatever... it's easier than saying "oh i love that painting with the black background and the red dot in the middle of it."
my titles are *usually* just random designations, or a gradual evolution of a random working title. in the end they mostly end up as private jokes between me and my friends or (more often than not) private jokes with myself (yes, it IS pathetic).
as for BT's Hair...
well... we've all seen his hair. it's too perfect.
in pictures i always notice his hair...
EVERYONE always notices his hair...
so i had this whole idea that i was stuck on for weeks that BT's Hair could have it's own band and do stuff separate from BT.
I mean, it's possible. right??Leave a comment:
