I think you will need the a windows xp disk to install the network monitor driver.
Does the laptop have an ip address in the internet protocol when you connect that up?

ok - thanks - a disc hunting i will go.......yes laptop does have ip in ipconfig

without that disc - not bein pessimistic or anything but i'm not gonna find it - is there any other way?
could i download drivers?
could i borrow someone else's xp cd or does it have to be mine?

^^ using any xp cd as would do the job...but google around you will be able to download them too... good luck
