I could see it being very useful in academia where a group is collaboratively working on a paper/analysis or something. The average joe probabl won't have much use for it though.

I agree with you.. I think it could be really handy for business use, like everyone in an office working together, putting up reports, bring the office that bit closer in real time, desk meetings can be abit of a time waster in some organisations.

Other than that i think socially Facebook and gmail/google groups will suit most people fine. BTW i have WAVE but can't seem to find an invite option, maybe it has to be sent to me, if i get some invites ill pass them on to whoever wants one.
