    01. Tom Peters - Take Your Chance (Speicher 73) [Kompakt Extra | KOM EX 73]

Starting out in 2001 as a mere compilation series to tie up some loose ends from our regulars, Speicher has since become a guarantee for vanguard dance sounds from all over the planet, allowing Kompakt to invite and support electronic artists that comfortably inhabit both the delicate and the more deliberate ends of the electronic music spectrum.

For Speicher 73, Holland's master of epic synths Quince and Berlin-based Techno fashionista Tom Peters crafted two expansive masterpieces driven by emotive leads and tightly laced beats ready to make the crowd go ballistic.

Canned by DJs worldwide, Quince is certainly a well-known brand in the Techno circuit, with strong releases on highly respected labels like Delsin or Music Man Records to his name. Where his earlier work excels in raising impressive skylines based on classic four-to-the-floor patterns, he somewhat strays away from his trademark bounce for Lost and implements a thrusting shuffle beat instead. The result is an eight-minute cliffhanger in the disguise of a cubist fairy tale, where we follow the unsung hero on its way through dark forests, clearing a path to what could very well be a princess at need. Shot through with moments of pure bliss, this suspense-packed thrill ride showcases the massive talent of the Dutchman whose years of experience in playing live translate seamlessly into consummate DJ weaponry.

Two hours north of Berlin lies the small community of Unnode, where bustling DJ, producer and fashion designer Tom Peters draws from the proximity of the Baltic Sea for inspiration. It's here where he produces most of his tracks including Take Your Chance, surrounded by stunning nature and not much else. Deeply informed by this vast landscape, Tom's production work shows all the signs of transcendent melancholy, but never fails to back up it with urban drive; his contribution to Speicher 73 sports some truly epic synth work with its hair tied back by propelling beat injections, fuelling a highly versatile floor monster aimed at both your feet and your heart. Just like the hand-printed messages featured in his own clothing line Save Fashion, Tom's music likes to walk the fine line between simplicity and ambiguity: "Dream on, dreamer."

    02. Inxec vs Droog - Mountain Drop [Last Night On Earth | LNOE016]

The Last Night On Earth name is spreading like wildfire, due to some hugely successful releases that have garnered worldwide acclaim. The newest release from Last Night On Earth brings together a popular pairing - known for their collaborations and combined remixes, studio partners Inxec Vs Droog present their ‘Wide Open’ EP on 25th February.

In their own right, this duo make up two very well established names in the house and techno community... UK born Inxec comes straight out of the Nottingham club scene and along with close friend Matt Tolfrey, has an impressive roster of releases on high class labels under his belt. Droog is the DJ collective of Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Sloe - the Culprit label owners have steadily built a reputation as one of the leading purveyors of forward thinking dance music, in Los Angeles and beyond with parties boasting the likes of Jamie Jones, Steve Bug, Visionquest, Nicolas Jaar and many more.

This couple come together once more to create another master mix of bounce, bass, electronic and atmospheric blends with ‘Wide Open’ and ‘Mountain Drop’. The two track EP is latest in a series of diverse electronic tracks with the inevitably slick Last Night On Earth touch.

    [Special Housin Association Review]

The latest release from Sasha’s impressive Last Night On Earth imprint is from Nottingham’s Inxec, who teams up again with regular dueling partners and Culprit label owners Droog, an LA production team consisting of Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Sloe.

Title track and EP opener Wide Open starts things off nicely. Capacious pads and a gentle build have us thinking we’re in for a languid, ambient affair until 90 seconds in we are hit with a nimble wee bassline to raise things up a notch – said bassline is then nicely manipulated as we progress. There are some comparisons to be made with some of Sasha’s own work with the analogue synths and cut and paste snippets of arpeggios reminiscent of the man’s own epic ‘Mongoose’, albeit this track is much more sedate and has more modest ambitions. It is a very nice piece of work though, with lots of atmospheric touches and plenty of spacey melodies to maintain interest over its near eight minute running time.

Mountain Drop is next up and is immediately sounds more raw, with busy percussion and some rough synth stabs from the first bar – we are then introduced to a bassline that sounds perfunctory at first but things build really well with lots of additional effects and percussion enhancing continuously, as an additional deep bass growl really starts to reinforce down below. Before we know it the track has morphed into a really muscular groove, with nice snare rolls and vocal samples keeping us on our toes. A dramatic edge is added by the arpeggio that appears to drive things forward and our interest is developed further by the nice synth melodies and pad flourishes that make regular appearances. The spacious breakdown is nicely effective and track still sounds really impressive as it makes its way towards the exit.

Overall we have two really imaginative and inventive productions that are packed with melody and atmosphere here. Mountain Drop is the outstanding track for me, on what is a very impressive release.

    03. Mr.C - I'm Gonna Give You Some (Dance Spirit & David Scuba Remix) [Superfreq | SFQ010]

After a six year hiatus Mr. C’s Superfreq label is back with a superb new single from the man himself and a no holds barred plan for the year ahead.

The Superfreq label was originally launched by Mr. C & Luke vB back in 2004 as an extension of Mr. C’s Superfreq club brand born from the monthly night at his legendary club, The End. Music from Mr. C alongside productions from the likes of Levon Vincent, Adultnapper & Barbq get the label on the cutting edge of electronic club music but with heavy commitments elsewhere the label’s releases came to a halt in 2007. Now with a new label partner in the shape of David Scuba, Mr.C & Luke vB are back with a bigger and bolder Superfreq that is set to take centre stage in 2013.

To launch the musical proceedings Mr. C offers up a brand new single entitled ‘I’m Gonna Give You Some’ and in so doing sets the standard for the label’s future releases. The single kicks off with the original version a dark edged, pulsing affair that brings a brooding intensity to Mr. C’s wonderfully ambiguous lyrical content and has the listener hooked with its ethereal quality, sublime stuff. The first of the two remixes sees label partner and Superfreq LA resident DJ David Scuba join forces with Dance Spirit (a new moniker from the Android Cartel crew) to rework ‘I’m Gonna Give You Some’ in their own likeness. The mix journeys into tech infused hypnotic house territory with Mr. C’s vocals leading the charge with swirling synth lines over a tightly wrapped rhythm section to create a superb alternative version. To complete the package David Scuba takes the reins solo and drops a mix that brings a dub techno feel to the song’s structure for a perfect conclusion.

With Mr.C’s brand new album ‘Smell the Coffee’ poised for release in the spring and a heavy schedule of Superfreq singles in the pipeline, this release gives a great insight both into the musical mind of Mr.C in 2013 and the outlook for the newly launched Superfreq label, enjoy!

    04. Jupiter Jazz - Shake It Mama [Ellum Audio | ELL011]

Jupiter Jazz is the moniker for production duo Maceo Plex and Danny Daze.

A force of twisted nature, Jupiter Jazz are finally dropping their inaugural bomb EP 'Booty Jazz', after the first remix outing on Ellum with Switchbox's 'Pirates Poetry'. Sucking the dancefloor into their flaming orbit and leaving all inhabitants senses back on earth, Maceo Plex and Danny Daze are here to Jupiter Jazz you up.

'Shake It Mama' launches the booty theme with a vortex of dirty, dark 80s electro, growling low-end and Cameo style vocoder while a smoother groovier deeper vibe shimmers through 'Technology' on the b-side.

Taking a weirder turn 'Good Girl' seals the package with a sleazy male vocal line, tight drums and hypnotic pads. So let Jupiter Jazz drag you into the black hole of 'Booty Jazz' for some intergalactic misbehaviour. More to come in the not so distant future.

    05. Hot Since 82 - Don't Be Afraid (Hot Jams Volume 2) [Noir Music | NMW039]

Hot Since 82 is the name on everyone's lips at the moment and quite rightly so! The Yorkshire-man starts the New Year as he finished the last, serving up exquisite underground house music. This time in the form of Hot Jams Vol.2 on Noir Music.

Since his debut release Let It Ride on Noir Music things have been going pretty well for Hot Since 82. 2012 saw him rise to fame with huge releases on Get Physical, Moda Black and of course Hot Jams Vol.1 & Houze Thiz on Noir. His remix work for Yousef, Friendly Fires and Shadow Child was received with high acclaim, with the former spending over four weeks at the summit of the Beatport Deep House chart.

He's working on a conceptual project for Moda Black, as well a more club goodness & remixes along the way. Despite the rain and sleet, 2013 looks like it'll be rather sunny for this young producer.

    06. Sam Russo - Not Another Juno Track (Losing Things EP) [Leftroom Limited | LEFTLTD030]

Matt Tolfreys Leftroom Limited Brings You Sam Russos Losing Things, Backed With A Remix From Jack Dixon. Also look out for the Digital Extra 'Not Another Juno Track'.

    07. Monika Kruse feat. Robert Owens - One Love (Nick Curly Dub) (Traces Remixes Part 1) [Terminal M | TERM098-6]

Let's lose no time and energy and start 2013 in full effect. Just voted top5 best album in FAZEmag's readers poll, 2012 was the year of Monika Kruse's highly acclaimed album 'Traces'. And 2013 starts big time with the first part of the remixes for the Terminal M owner. It's Belgian Ramon Tapia who delivered two (yes 2) very different versions of 'Namaste', both road tested by Monika for months. Deep house maestro Nick Curly took the chance to refine 'One World' featuring the incredible voice of Robert Owens. And it's magic.

More remixes by Butch, Rampa, Mathias Kaden and Stephan Bodzin from different album tracks coming during the next months.

    08. M.in - Nummer 2 (Pig & Dan Remix) [RabaukeN Schallplatten | RABAUKEN002]

Played by Adam Beyer, Alan Fitzpatrick, Hermanez, Sasha, Danny Tenaglia, Maceo Plex and many more.

    [Sound Effect Magazine Review]

After the first release of RabaukeN Schallplatten in September 2012 that was supported by djs like Seth Troxler, Dubfire, Paco Osuna, Luciano, Richie Hawtin, Butch, Magda, Umek, Martin Eyerer, Pascal F.E.O.S. or Christian Martin they strike back with number 2. Their “Nummer 2 EP” was done by M.IN who delivers two Tech-House bombs as everyone expected, as he did on other top labels like Desolat or Cecille.

“Nummer 2″ is a very dance floor oriented track that force is located in a strong synth line and a long dawn vocal. A perfect “party” groove round off this track and kicks you onto the floor.

“Nummer 2.1″ sounds more like an old school house tracks but with modern tech house elements. That “alright” vocal in the middle is only taken for the “feel good” athmo and the long “I wanna thank all of my friends” vocal signalled why M.in produced this track for.

After years his friends still supporting him a lot he just want to say: “THANK YOU”! “Nummer 2″ was remixed by PIG&DAN (Cocoon, Elevate, Soma, Bedrock). The guys took the original track and added their magic touch. Irresistible groove and dirty twists all mixed up to bring us an epic outcome. TECHNO BOMB ALERT!!! “

Nummer 2.1″ SEBASTIAN PHILLIP & DANITO had a word with and skilfully restaged and cut the vocals while adding additional groove to the main parts of the original.
