    Re: Montreal

Montreal is an amazing city. Stereo is a very special place on top of that. As for places to go and see, honestly just walk around for the most part. Start on Rue Guy and Sainte Catherine, traveling down Sainte Catherine heading towards St Laurent. Mostly between there, and St Laurent is where it's the busiest. You can head up the hill from St Catherine to Mont Royal, bust a right to St Denis and head back down through there. There's a place to eat on Mont Royal that was good, Trip De Bouffe, more like a fresh meal on the go type place. La Banquise is just around the corner from there on Rue Rachel, its a must really. The poutine is the best around. The hot dogs are serious business too. Expect a line. Schwarts is another place for some good food, again expect a line. For breakfast we go to Wanda's, Le Gros Jambon and The Mon Cafe. The last two are in old port, and when they run out of food the shows over. This is another area to walk around. If you want to buy beer, source it from Maxi it'll be the cheapest. Otherwise look for SAQ which will have the liquor and beer. Unibroue beer, it's brewed half hour from Montreal in Chambly. Good stuff. St Denis off St Catherine will be a happening place at night. There's a lot of bars and restaurants there. We found Weinsteins and Gavino had a good atmosphere. Cigar bar on the corner was decent. I'll list some other places below, if you have any questions don't hesitate. PS. Sorry for the run on.

Wienstein & Gavino's is the iconic Italian restaurant and pasta bar in Montreal. Located in the heart of downtown on crescent street, W&G serves guests on 3 floors with two terraces in the summer.

            Incredible tips

Went to Montreal last year for work (3 days though) ... With Toronto, some of the best cities i've been... The old port area by night is unbelievable.. Another world. Hopefully will be there again by the end of the year.

Sure you`ll have an amazing time there, have fun!

                        Re: Montreal

I am sure that many of you have been to Stereo, but for those who haven’t, you really need to go.

I’ve never seen anything like it… incredible place. I remember thinking a few times that night that it should be replicated in every major city around world.. it’s the perfect dance hall. Nothing fancy in terms of screens, lights, etc., one huge disco ball, great hardwood dancefloor, and some old school lights..

The sound system and acoustics are phenomenal. I’ve never heard anything like it.. at one point during the night I sat on the couches for almost 30 minutes just listening and I was blown away…so clean.. pitch perfect.. the sound it produces has a certain sense of warmth to it.. its addicting. John pushed it hard all night but it just kept on pumping without the slightest distortion.

                        ^its beautiful.

Mr. Digweed played a monster of a set. I haven’t heard him play like this in a very long time. It took about 30 mins to reset the room from the warm up DJ (who I thought was great as well), but once he got going he had us hooked for the next 8 hrs. It was a techno heavy set that simply swept us off our feet. Its amazing what producers are able to do these days, and he really knows how to put it all together. He also blended some old school sounding prog here and there which had me smiling for hours. Clever mixing.. very smooth.. Love it.

I rarely express strong opinions, but if you think that he has “lost it” or brings an outdated sound you are wrong. I felt like I was on the cutting edge of electronic music the whole night.

A few times during the night I would find myself in the middle of the dance floor and I will just look around to find the whole place wired in.. flowing.. moving as one. Its an incredible feeling.. almost as if the universe was observing itself trough all of us and the music that was making it all happen. I’ve witnessed such magic on a few occasions before.. twice at the Vagabond with John, and a few times at a Grateful Dead shows on an even larger scale.
I will probably be going back there every time he is in town. It’s a very special place.

Pics aren’t allowed but I had to take at least one

Finally.. after being at the Vagabond party which was released as a Live In, and witnessing what goes on at Stereo, I can't help but think that the Live In series does very little to portray the experience you get at the actual parties.

Don't get me wrong, I think its amazing that Digweed still cares and puts in all that effort to get his sets released, and I will keep buying them if he decides to release more, but it really doesn't come close to experiencing all this as it was intended.
