For the first Slide of 2014 we welcome The Unabombers, curators of the outstanding odyssey Electric Elephant festival in Croatia, alongside Balearic Mike & Kelvin Andrews and Slide regulars Eskimo Twins.
It was the summer of 1995 when The Unabombers first detonated their underground bomb, The Electric Chair, in a sweaty basement below the pavements of Manchester. In the decade since, it’s become the worst kept secret in the world of clubbing. A mystic brew of house, disco, hip-hop, broken beat, Latin, R&B, techno and northern sulphuric soul. The heart of Mancunia, a fabled land where everyone parties as one - strangers and soul mates, straights and gays, north and south, students and scallies. Anyone can open a club. Not everyone can open hearts and minds.
Supporting The Unabombers we have Balearic Mike & Kelvin Andrews - for those Electric Elephant goers, in recent times Mike and Kelvin have become synonymous with their 'Down To The Sea & Back' boat party, described by some as "the best house party i've ever been to!". Balearic Mike is one of the world’s unsung DJ heroes. His doggedly independent eclecticism, a restless archaeological thirst for lost treasure, and a keen desire to mine new music that suits his broadminded genre surfing post modern Balearic brief put him up there with a lonely few- those who are not scared to cross reference, off road and experiment with the crucial narrative that is at the core of any musical journey worth paying attention to. Balearic Mike has played at some of the finest clubs in the UK and around the world, including The Electric Chair, Horse Meat Disco (UK), Electric Elephant (Croatia), Pacha & Space (Ibiza), Slow Blow (Stockholm), Tape (Berlin), Chillits & The Plunge (California), The Do-Over (LA), Apt. (New York), and many others.
Kelvin Andrews has been a DJ since the beginning of time (1982)!! A Producer since 92 . Resident @ Golden 92-96 , The Bomb 96-2000. Guest at seminal club nights Back To Basics, Slam, Venus, Heavenly Social and all over the world ever since. Remixed with super talented brother Danny Mekanik as Sure Is Pure/Soul Mekanik the likes of Aretha Franklin, The Doobie Brothers, Sister Sledge, Sly & The Family Stone, Marvin Gaye, Blue Boy, Frankie Goes To Hollywood and dozens more. Producer of over 100 house records and famous for playing for 8hrs and more from chilled sunsets & balearic to underground disco and heads down spaced-out deep house. Label boss (Gem/Pharm/Creative Use/WoNk/ReVno) and all-round musical gentleman.
