    Re: Time for Goodbye?

I don't visit as much as years past, but i'd miss Mercuryserver.

A leaner MS could be good. I only check in these days to do a quick drive-by to see what Kamal and a few people are up to and to check the music forums. Someone said it earlier in this thread and it's so true- i find out about sets, albums, music, etc. here that i'd never find elsewhere, that alone keeps me coming back along with the faint nostalgia and familiarity of a place i've visited for over a decade.

As bunny from Rabbit in the Moon said to me once, music trends are cyclical. I think that applies to MS. to the extent that there will be slow seasons and popular seasons. Would also be nice if more members would actually start threads, imho.

It does appear there is a lot of life yet in MS and perhaps talk of it being harpooned has been a good thing.

We even have lurkers posting their first post in the ambient thread wondering what it's all about, in the hope MS remains

If everyone's post count is reset, the posts will all have to go through the approval process.

    Re: Time for Goodbye?

Great discussion, and good to be addressing the apparent ELEPHANT in the (chat) room. My thoughts:

    - Consolidation is the way to go, less is more. Agree with getting rid of sub-forums

    - Get down to what's important. To me, I come here to learn about and listen to electronic music, and there's still lots of people passionate about it here. That must count for something

    - I'm happy to chip in for any costs myself, I've got some amazing sets from the board and would love to give back

    - I think resetting post count is a good idea. I don't post often but that doesn't mean I'm not on here reading and enjoyng some posts. I think post-count may have a link to sense of entitlement for some. Should be about music not ego.

    - Seeing as the Oscars are on, if we had the equivalent on MS, I'd give 'Best Thread' Oscar to Micko for his ambient thread, the time and effort he's put on there is incredible!

P L U R to all members and here's to an effective strategy to maintaining some version of MS

    Re:

What Micko said! This place was such a relief from the old GU forums where the old guard would just bash everybody for breathing the wrong way. It's nice to be a part of a mature music community with some intelligence on board. It would totally suck if [ms] disappeared.
