I prefer the tracklist first so my time isn't wasted. if I don't like a set, I'll figure it out pretty quickly... a tracklist beforehand will save me some of the time -
I think I judge DJs harder when I hear a set I don't like... postjudging, I guess. I'd rather see a tracklist and not tune for a set than feel like I wasted my time with a DJ.Comment

Re: Tracklists...When is Best?
Harsh dilemma. From a listener point of view I'd prefer seeing it beforehand, so I can decide if it's interesting enough for me to check out or not. The downside of this is that certain people are more eager in checking out sets having loadsa CDR's or promos from their favorite producers. Less known DJ's don't have this luxury, which creates a risk for certain people not tuning in at all. This brings me to the DJ / Show hoster point of view. Taking all this into account it can be wiser to post the T/L after the show.Comment

Re: Tracklists...When is Best?
Wow...so far it's almost completely evenly divided.
My personal preference as both a show host and listener to many of the great shows on MN is to see the list before. This is only because I enjoy listening along noting how well the DJ programs and phases tracks I already know as well as anticipating the quality of tracks that are new to me.
On the other hand I can understand those who like the surprise of tuning in not having a clue what is coming, for better or worse. It DOES more closely resemble how you would hear a set out live so that aspect is valid too.
The only thing I don't really agree with is on judging a mix simply by perusing its TL. I've heard the worst sets with all my favorite tracks and the best sets from guys spinning a genre I'd normally not be into....so to do that, I think, is a bit premature.

Re: Tracklists...When is Best?
It is much more exciting when you don't know what is coming. Especially when a DJ drops a completely unexpected track or something.
To be fair I'd probably only recognise about 3 tunes anyway. Tracklists are more useful for finding out the name of obscure and upcoming releases to slap them on a wishlist and drop them in a set like you were the one that discovered it

Re: Tracklists...When is Best?
Posting a tracklist before the broadcast is spoiling things too much for me and I prefer to get it after or during the mix. On other boards people use to have long threads for some shows, listen together and try to ID the tracks while they are played on the radio. I like that a lot because these threads are fun most of the time.Comment
