Now that's where we're in complete agreement. As your favorite politician Bill Clinton said years ago "Welfare should not be a way of life, but a second chance."

Yao, you might as well give up on the American's view of socialism...most of these dumbasses over here can't figure out the difference between communism and socialism, they tend to think and argue that they're one and the same and this is essentially where this prejudice comes from. I was always a strong supporter of socialism and have constantly found myself in the position of teaching people this (and I'm talking fairly intelligent and educated people).

Every American has been brainwashed to believe that "Socialism = Communism". The funny thing about it is that this country has a ton of socialist policies and programs and the population and politicians still have no clue.

well too effing bad commie boy.

if i earn it, and want to earn more to accumulate wealth, i have every right to and im damn hell bent on keeping it mine. i earned it. difference in philosophy. im not about to cheer the fact that my government gives out grants to, for example, and artist, who cant hold an income producing job becuase he studied something that, usually, doesnt generate income.

I'm all for the benefits a socialist state can give, provided the taxing revenues are managed in the right way, and also for the incentive that usually come with capitalism. Sean, yours and other Americans' remarks have made me realize how incredibly negative any form of socialism, or rather, caring for each other, has been portayed by the US government and elites. It's in-fucking-credible that all I ever hear about socialism is that it is 'taking money from the rich and giving it to poor people who are too lazy to get a job'.

How fucking narrow can tunnelvision get???

How about more money available for education, making it accessible and good quality, or making health care affordable and good quality? Don't you think that an educated and healthy population might be the bedrock of a productive and strong economy?

Probably not, since the policy in the US has for a long time been to make people believe that the only way is to fight your way up in a system that structurally disadvantages people from lower ranks - you guys have an income gap that matches that of many southamerican countries and an electoral system that is still in use in the UK and Africa....(and is over here widely regarded as retarded, seriously)

No offense meant bro, but all this Euro-bashing of late because of our more socialist nature is so off the right track...I just needed to vent a little here .

    Capitalism in urbandictionary:
    5. Common synonym for greed
    or similarly:
A form of government based entirely on the foundation of greed.
and lastly, the one I find quite on point:
A economic system which is usually short lived before becoming corporatism. In this system, everyone is said to have an equal chance to become rich, depending on how hard they work. While this is true of capitalism, usually by the time a capitalists become rich, corporatism is born. A system where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. While Capitalism is a good idea, in theory, it is not in practice. Just like communism. Neither work. Usually, the only way for a semi-capitlist state to exist for any length of time is through democratic socialism.
