I dont know if this works for everyone but i use FIREFOX and it automatically adds *.mp3 at the end of it... no need to manually rename it

It could have been a bad setting on the FTP upload part to the server i have changed it.

Can it be that you can't see/edit the extension mp3 or exe? If so check this FAQ entry.
