I don't think he was apologetic at all, he knew he was in a pretty bad situation with Gus and tried to talk his way out of it.

Spoiler warning - Mark text to read it...he was all like apologetic and not the strong character he became in the first 3 seasons.
oh and another thing i strongly believe is that in the next couple of episodes gus will die. the one or the other way

Finished the 3rd season last weekend. Really liked their flashback way of story telling in this season and it was great to see Mr. Machete again. He died waaay too quickly anyways.
Good to know there will be another season. I bet in the 4th one, he will get back together with his wife and they do the bizniz together.
