hardly anyone now uses big engined petrol cars.

its only small run abouts (i mean small by european standards) that have tiny 1.1 - 1.4 engines.

Most people use diesel or gas.

My Acura gets good gas mileage.

when i was out in LA, i got 260 miles out of a tank in a mazda3. it cost me 37 dollars to fill up.

with my diesel i get 470 miles out of tank. and it cost me the equivalent of 40 dollars to fill up.

well.. find me a car that isnt made by japs that gets me 30MPG, goes over 200Kmiles, excellent resell value and cheap maintaince.

I agree that some of these cars are not fun to drive, but those are family sedans! its made for its intended customers..

This is bullshit there are loads of European cars that give you really good economy.

I for one would never ever buy a fucking Prius it is hands down the shittiest by performance and its fucking ugly and its no fun.
I like my Japanese cars but I Love European ones. I would much rather buy a small vw than any of those Japanese shitty small cars and I would much rather buy a BMW than any of the Japanese bigger cars (worth the price difference)...
With a vw and bmw ... German made cars in general you don't even have to have maintenance and they will work for tens of years....
even the last woman on earth would be driving until her death if she drove a bmw or vw.

Beg to differ on that opinion..... Japs = Dependability, Germans = Performance. I'm sure there's the odd german car that rivals the longevity of Japanese made cars but that percentage is very very small compared to Japanese manufactured vehicles.

Well...I can only judge by what I can see around me and if u ask anyone in any parts of eastern Europe (thats where all the old cars go in case u wondered) all the cab drivers drive this



This is telling a lot...and I spoke to some who have driven the same car for some 20 years. A cab driver driving the same car for 20 years...so they are either in a Mercedes 300D or a BMW/Audi with gas installed...anyway very few Japanese cars. The truth is Amercians have been tricked by the Japs because US cars are so unreliable and fuel consuming and generally shit (if u don't mind me saying) and the Japanese when they came HAD some great models but have since then really slipped...if you compare some of the reliability of the older Japanese models when they were conquering the US market to most Japanese cars today you will see what I mean.
Even if you don't look that far back.

The new one is so much shittier by performance and reliability...
But I don't really mind...I just think that I am gonna buy a European car and a Japanese motorcycle :-)

I wouldn't consider the fact that you see more 300ds in eastern europe as a sign of reliability over japanese dependability as opposed to market penetration.

not to mention tourists visiting eastern europe would be more inclined to hail a cabbie in a beat up merc versus a beat up mazda. in which case its more a business model than dependability.
