Re: definition of a DJ..
I still think a DJ is someone that plays at clubs, parties, or for a group of people and with some frequency. I don't consider a "bedroom DJ" to be a DJ.
For example, I have turntables and lots of vinyl and can mix, but only do so at home, but if someone asks if I'm a DJ then I say no.
And if you've only played a gig or two in your life then you're not a DJ either.Leave a comment:

Re: definition of a DJ..
i think a dj is a person who introduces people to new music.
that being said, there are different levels of skill, competence and technique in dj's.

I agree, once it's in your blood, it's in there forever.Originally posted by thrualoooop";p="this is correct.dj means"disc jockey"...even in the future when there discs are not even used anymore(all music will be on a chip) we will be called dj,s....also once its in your blood you can never disclaim who you have become.......Originally posted by FM";p="bahh you're just in "temporary retirement" ... once a DJ, always a DJ
man i hope the masses doesnt start calling us "chip jockeys"
"..Chip Jockeys..", hee hee hee, I like that one.Leave a comment:

You're a Professional DJ if you get paid to do it, and an Amatuer DJ otherwise. Simple

Re: definition of a DJ..
The term DJ was around long before the ones in clubs nowdays that like to take you on a journey and educate you.
When I first started going out it applied to anyone who played records in any type of club, any type of music,on the radio at weddings,on hospital radio where ever.Leave a comment:

Re: definition of a DJ..
I mix records, but i don't consider myself a DJ. I think you second definition is what suits a DJ more.
What i dislike even more now is every other moron that because he mixes a groove armada track and a Dirty Vegas considers himself a hotshot DJ bragging all the time about it. I dont know about you but i've met quite a few of those.
YES DJs should take people on journeys
YES DJs should move the crowds
NO DJs don't play Dirty Vegas!!!!!!
uh-oh...I think I still have some old Hydrogen Rockers mixes. And my mother used to own a Mitsubishi. Oh well, nobody listens to techno...

Hey you don't need gigs at clubs or been payed for being a dj, for a crowd or for your dog if you likes to play recordsat partys and show music to the people you can consider a dj, but of course that not means thjat you are a great one, no one is famous in one day.Leave a comment:

Jockeys work horses, disc jockeys work music, radio disc jockeys work both radio and music. Considering semantics, a cook could be food jockey, a bartender a drink jockey, and Michael Moore a shit jockey.
So if you can really work the music, you're a DJ. Whether or not you're a good DJ is a whole other question. That's when "playing gigs" and "getting paid" counts.Leave a comment:
