    Sirius Radio: Area 33

I've recently bought a new car and am loving Sirius Radio thus far. Far better than crappy capitalist FM, but I guess it's still impossible to please everyone.

I would like to get some feedback from other [ms] members on what they think of Area 33 and see if there is anyway the station could be coerced into providing a better mix of progressive House. I really enjoy the station 75% of the time, but sometimes I tune in to hear some reeeeeal shit. At least once an hour I get hit with some tracks that should be thrown in with The Beat on channel 36, which plays all of "the club hits" interlaced with remixes of Britteny Spears songs :vomits: Sometimes the two stations are indistinguishable and I wonder why they are even separated to begin with!

They've got some good DJ's hosting bangin shows on there every week - but it's just not enough to fill the day. Pete Tong, Judge Jules, MARCO BAILEY, PVD, and even (sigh) Oakenfold seem to lay down some pretty good mixes. But all to often I hop in my car to be plagued with some over-the-top echoed vocals and pre-millenium arena trance! Wtf is going on!

With the overwhelming amount of awesome mixes produced every week all over the world, why the hell am I still listening to D:Fuse? I say segregate the stations!

    Any thoughts?

SIrius is on key for me about 30-40% of the time. I really only listen to Jam On, Area 33, and Chill. Some of the prog that they play on 33 is okay but I wish they had a channel that played some darker house and techno.

I don't give a shit for trance and some of the other stuff they often play

Area 33 can be good at times, but for the most part I hear a lot of electro house dj's or peeps like Paul Oakenfold and shit like that....My favorite stations are 70's (channel 70), 80's (channel 80), 90's (channel 90), Radio 1 (channel 011), Classic Vinyl (channel 014), and of course chill (channel 035).....There are some really good station on Sirius. I dont even listen to regular radio anymore..

I really prefer stuff that's a lot darker than what they play on Area 33. It's rare that they play anything I really get into. I probably listen to Sirius Chill more than anything else (although I prefer XM Chill, which I listen to @ home)

          Re: Sirius Radio: Area 33

I have sirius and I listed to area 33 all the time when i first bought it, but there is an extreme lack of dark stuff.

prob the best mixes I ever heard from them come from the show with the alien name.. wtf, i am so lame i cant even think of it.. this isnt very constructive.

anyways, I listen to chill and i really enjoy the college radio/indie/import station, left of center sirius 26.

they've had some good guest mixes, danny howells did one, hawtin.
I also listen to radio 1 for the essential mix when I can, that is channel 11 iirc.

i would sign a petition for eliminating the cheese for christsake ive had enough of the newest above and beyond club mix.

i find they play a lot of electro house, bleh.

oh and from 9am -12 is swedish egils show, grooveradio. he has been rocking Los Angeles with with edm scene since the 80's that show has some great guest mixes. he had hernan on there a few times.

the show is called invasion, its alright. they have some good guests.
they had steve porter, who sometimes has some quality tunes.

pvd has the vonyc session, thats a meh from me

josh gabriel and mr cheese dresden had a show, josh is the only one with any brilliance so the show mostly was velveeta.

I've had Sirius for awhile now and really don't listen to Area 33 that much. They play mostly trance and other crap dance music. The WMC coverage was really good and I listened non-stop when I wasn't at an event myself. There are some good DJ shows on Area 33 later at night worth listening to.

I have Sirius and I only listen to Area 33 when PVD is on or when they are running Groove Radio stuff, some of the lesser know names can throw down. And IMO the Area 33 coverage of WMC was shite! Get rid of Emily Tan!!!! I have to agree XM does have the better shows.

I liked the WMC coverage with all the DJ interviews. Sounds quality from some of the shows sucked. And I do agree that Emily Tan was getting on my nerves. Still cool hearing all the different DJs being interviewed even if Emily was annoying.

Good to hear I'm not alone in wanting to hear darker stuff... waaaay too much trance on 33. So what can be done about it? Sirius doesn't offer any forums that I know of, and I've sent a few e-mails asking for a reply, but I'm sure they get 1000's a day. My biggest complaint here is that The Beat and Area 33 are too intermingled. They need to throw all of the crappy Trance on The Beat and let Area 33 keep all the badass House. Any idiot with one ear can tell you that Trance and House are the two most well known genres of electronic/dance music - so why can't they do their best to split them up!? I'm not asking for a Rotterdam or Happy Hardcore station here - Trance and House are the big dogs, respect!!!

I know the styles can bleed into one another, and it would be silly to segregate based on BPM, beat structure etc - but I think everyone that would listen to either of the stations would agree that there are some very distinct traits of each style that should be kept separate. I hate hate hate hate silly soulful vocals (nearly all vocals really), chime effects, echoed whispers about lost love, three minute buildups, rudimentary synth layers, and anything that could easily be mistaken for a gay anthem (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

first off...how in the hell are normal radio stations more capitalist than Sirius? Sirius makes you PAY TO LISTEN! the other one's are indifferent. That's such a strange conclusion you've come to.

second, i'm not sure what the pull is of listening to dance music on the radio. there are gigs upon gigs of music i still have yet to listen to. I couldn't ever imagine myself being in a position where i would find the need to actually pay someone to play music. And as some people have said, is sometims only good half the time anyway. Granted, you do get other stations and stuff...but if you're only listening to the The Move or Area 33 or whatever...it's hard for me to understand you're using anything else.

Perhaps the only reason why i would pay is only for the WMC coverage, which can really go either way. one of my favourite cd's i'll listen to is Cattaneo's mix on The Move at the Palms Hotel. Or the Sean Cusick/Fortier set.
you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles
