Re: John Peel
He wasn't the best DJ... but in radio terms a DJ is just someone who plays music, not really anything about mixing. And in those terms he was one of the best. He exposed people to allll kinds of music they never would have heard unless he was working at Radio 1. Props to him for all the hard work and talent he's exposed in the last 40 years. Best wishes to his family and may he R.I.P.Ride the donkeyComment

And do you know what track he wants played at his funeral
The Undertones - Teenage Kicks.
He was the first dj to play this track and he liked it so much he played it 3 times on the trot. Top man

:ROFLMAO: Classic Peel Moment!! He was always doing things like that - you got the feeling he didn't care about putting on a pro radio show or doing things properly - he was just there to have a laugh and play his favourite music! Good thing his music taste was always lightyears ahead of anyone else!
I remember a moment he came to the end of a track and said "I was enjoying that track so much, I completely forgot to cue up the next record - oh well, I'll just keep talking until I this next record gets into the right place...." His shows were full of moments like that!
I'm now gonna go and listen to some darkcore jungle played at the wrong speed followed by some hillbilly banjo music - it's what he would have wanted

Re: John Peel
^^
So true, I grew up listening to Johns show, he had such a reassuring voice and was very light hearted. playing the records he liked and wanted to share. The word legend is over used but i know it applies to him, I will miss tuning in and listening to the wacky mix of tracks he'd play.
He will be missed."Pain is only weakness leaving the body."Comment
