    Re: absinthe

    I envision gasoline tasting like absinthe. Saying absinthe tastes like black licorice is puting it lightly. Black licorice doesn't burn your throat going down and is not flamable. Sorry to disagree with you but absinthe tastes like crap unless you water it down. If it is legal to buy in the states don't buy it. Its a waste of your money and will just get you drunk.

    ^ so how do you know what Gasoline tastes like? I've smelled Gasoline before but this stuff doesn't smell like gas, it smells like Black Licorice.

    let me rephrase that:
    highly alcoholic beverages are just fine, i just chose to pull off some ridiculous shit while guzzling it. heh.

    wormwood is a fine herb. perhaps i should take some hemlock or wolfsbane though.

    [quote=day_for_night;671280]if you drink it properly, its great. do the sugar cube burned over top, then mix it in with some water. the water dilutes it to a tolerable alcohol concentration, and the carmelized sugar adds a nice flavor to it. done in the right way, its good stuff![/quote

    Agree with you on that - a good barman will do it properly - The stuff we get over here is about 45%.

    Re: absinthe

    Does anyone know how many grams are in 10ppm of thujone?

    Trying to figure out which absinthe has the most of this in it...Some say it doesn't matter, except to add bitterness...

    "Absinthe doesn't have any other effect then the effect of the alcohol. The supposed hallucinogenic effect myth got around, because at the time there was loads of bullshit propaganda about it. Basically poor people drank it because it was cheap, that's why there was the propaganda, because the rich always have to have a reason to blame poor people for the problems they themselves cause in society. Then with the rise in popularity of absinthe, cheap knock-offs started being produced, that use copper salts to give it the green colour. This poisoned a lot of people, and these poisonings contributed to the ban.

    It's a modern day myth that old fashioned absinthe had high thujone levels, and was extra psychoactive. GC/MS testings of authentic bottles from that time, show that the thujone levels were pretty low. Modern high thujone absinthes aren't any more psychoactive, but they are a hell of a lot more bitter then traditional absinthes. High thujone is just a marketing ploy. Large quantities of wormwood aren't psychoactive, and I have personally taken several grams at a time of the stuff, with no psychoactive effects."

    Here are some cool sites about/and that sell absinthe...

    I had Lucid at an English pub on Friday. The after effect was a really nice euphoric buzz. Never had that kind of buzz from liquor before...

    Yeah, I hear the stuff stateside is made from a different kind of wormwood - one that does not contain any hallucigens. But I do like the tast of Black Liquorice ( I love Sambuca) so I might try some Absinthe. THough a hellish hangover doesn't sound good!
