The common sense here is that if the government ever decides to use law enforcement or the military against us, we have an obligation to fight back with the means necessary and granted to us by the 2nd amendment. This is our check and balance. Sorry if your view is too myopic to grasp that.

Most of us Americans do, and apparently you do as well, otherwise you wouldn't be arguing about it in here. The funny part is how you say it doesn't change how the world works....It does since you all are bitching at us because we have an amendment that protects us.

Oh, and I might add, that I had a very close karate instructor friend of mine (Hence my nickname "Little Sensei") shot and killed by his next door neighbor because he forced his way into their home. In no way was forcing his way into the home or his death justified, but on the flip side, you have to realize that people are not messing around anymore when it comes to protecting their families and themselves.

take it easy, lol, I'm not against people owning guns..I've heard of the 2nd amendment.. just because you are allowed to own a gun doesn't mean you have to.. if it's for protection, fair enough, I dont blame you if you feel the need to be protected.. im just saying the way some of the posts are coming across you'd think you live in the old west, this bravado of owning a gun for protection is the same sort of attitude that will get you in trouble with said gun

and shosh, I dont blame you one bit if you have one.. if you are anything in real life like you are on here there must be loads of women wanting a piece of you, lol

But, I've already commented on this too many times. There is more negative effect than positive effect of gun ownership, and that simple fact seems very difficult for everyone to understand because of some "amendment".

I just find the whole argument mind boggling. I respect that everyone has their own opinion, but it just seems ridiculous that there is a justification for gun ownership. No one yet has given me a good reason. Protection just doesn't cut it because in reality how often do you need to use it for protection?

Think of it this way... for any country that has a ban on guns, if you were to suddenly pass a law that allows purchase and use of guns like the US, there would be some sort of effect on crime and society. Now obviously this effect isn't going to be a decrease in crime and gun related violence right? Well, the same logic applies if you remove guns from the equation. By banning guns, it's only going to have a positive effect which ever way you look at it. It's not rocket science.

Now, that is certainly not a solution, nor will it eradicate murder and other crimes. But hey, no one here said it ever would.

Read it and learn it. It's a fundamental right granted by some of the greatest enlightenment thinkers in the realm of politics who wrote one of the most brilliant pieces of paper the world has seen.

BTW, in case you haven't noticed, prohibition on anything never works. It only fuels underground traffic.

The prime purpose of the 2nd amendment was to allow a means for fighting off a repressive government. Which is why they also have the well regulated militia necessary to a free state part.

Look it's clear, even by the quoted post, that you still don't know what the 2nd amendment is primarily for. Maybe you should actually read our constitution and its meanings before jumping to conclusions. Clearly, you know jack shit about and have a disregard for our laws of our land.
