Re: [ms] DJ Database
After about 6 hours, I've finally figured out how to use the vbulletin common pagination functions on DJDB code. I have restructured a bunch of stuff to let it work, but I think everything's working. I have finished changing the artist pages, the label pages, and the main/subscriptions pages to now use the standard page numbering that we're all used to. On top of this, I've implemented the ability to go back and look at the full history of all downloads and discussions for an artist or a record label. You can see examples of this functionality below:
http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/content.php (Check your subscriptions)
http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=2 (Check downloads/discussions)
I'm still not sure if the discussions pagination is needed, and I'm considering pulling it out and only leaving the 10 most recent ones. I'd like to hear feed back on what you guys think on this.

Re: [ms] DJ Database
In the last year Adam was more "the powers that be" than Kamal and myself together. I just don't spend as much time on the Internet than I used to and one of the results is that I am no longer involved in everything that is happening on [ms]. But Adam told us more than one time what you did and [ms] is built this way since day 1...user driven so many thanks for your work and time you have put into Adam's DJ database.Leave a comment:

Re: [ms] DJ Database
Please give me time, guys. Paginiation of multiple results is totally planned, but it's more work than you think. I could obviously change an integer from 10 to 100, but then our profile pages would become cumbersome. I need to take a day or two to write a common pagination function that I can use across all thread views in DJDB, and once I figure that out I can easily implement it on all thread lists in DJDB. Right now I'm trying to tackle the items on the to-do list that are easy to implement and take little amounts of time:
Bugs
- Hide record labels from artist profile if none exist and member has no access
- Record label search from labels screen doesn't work
- Precaching of templates needed in beginning of code?
- Multiple artist searches on label page doesn't hide submit button
- Artist display CSS to stretch outer div around inner div. {overflow:auto;}
- Artist/label creation - Is name a required field ?
- iGoogle widget not resizing
- Data stores in DB HTML encoded (& etc). Dynamically decode instead of in the DB
Data cleanup
- Remove guest subscriptions - more exist?
- Flag too many carriage returns in bios
- Reduce size of largest artist files (every 3 months?) (mogrify -resize 400 -quality 85 *)
- Find artists who have no photo
- Auto tag artists in P&R
General Enhancements
- DJ Database navbar additions
- Find Artists/Labels
- My Artists
- My Subscriptions
- Full [ms] navbar on DJDB screen
- Redesign artist/label feeds to use common pagination function
- Members over x number of posts can tag any thread
- Members over x number of posts can edit full DJDB - "wiki for active members"
- Page for finding recent artists (use feed pagination function?)
- Top 100 Artists list (use feed pagination function?)
- Display recent twitter/facebook/myspace/etc tweets/posts profile pages or threads?
- RSS - new artists / labels
- Photo tagging?
- Show read/unread status in all thread lists
- Random FB/MS/Twitter updates
- Events cron to pull from FB & MySpace?
- Artist search also searches real name
- CMS subscribed artist defaults for unregistered users (why subscribe?)
- CMS subscribed threads defaults for unregistered users
- CMS subscribed threads defaults for registered users w/ no artists (why subscribe?)
Labels Enhancements
- Labels vs Groups
- Tag labels to threads
- Add label feed to label's artist feed
- Label subscriptions
- Label header controls
iGoogle
- Subscribed Threads
- Random FB/MS/Twitter updates
- Random stats
Android Widget
This list tends to grow quicker than it shrinks... I probably have upwards near 3,000 lines of code that i have written for DJDB, and many parts of it still feel incomplete despite my ~15 hours/week working on it.

I promise I'm not ignoring your suggestions! I'm only one person who can do so much
btw, sbando... I *am* the powers that be, and I don't know if I could express my appreciation enough for everything you're doing
For what it's worth, I don't receive much feedback for most of what I do DJDB, either... I just keep reminding myself that people on the Internet tend to only offer feedback about things they don't like, and never about things that work.

Re: [ms] DJ Database
I've insisted about that, but Adam doesn't seem to envision it that way, he seems to consider it more as Web 2.0 feature, while the two, db and feature, could be easily combined.
I'm old school but I still consider having a clean list of sets with links (what happens in the Kiss 100 (rip) section, after all) still appeals to me. Not even our resident Joey and Chandler (Super and Chunky) have created such posts for Sasha or the GU collection.
On a less constructive note, I'm about to hit 800 entries to the database, may I say that apart from Adam, I didn't received much feedback from the ms powers that be..Leave a comment:

Re: Find members who have similar tastes in music
I just did this for your favorite artists and label search results, too. It was showing up as only text, and I updated it to show as photos/names. Click the link below to see your favorite artists:I also changed the artist search results. It was plain text, and it now returns search results in an image/name format. Click here for an example search on "John":

Re: Find members who have similar tastes in music
I just added some extra record label stats: Top 10 Contributors (we don't have 10 contributors yet!) and Latest Contributing Members.
I also changed the artist search results. It was plain text, and it now returns search results in an image/name format. Click here for an example search on "John":

Re: [ms] DJ Database
Eventually I want to add pagination, so you can click a link to go to the next page of sets. If I get around to doing that, I'll spend some time writing some code to try to auto-tag some threads. I have a big to-do list right now, so it's not at the top of my priorities

Re: [ms] DJ Database
yeah, but then u will have to go to each thread and tag the artists.
that will be a great idea, you think you can increase the 10 set limit, i was just thinking how great it would be to have all the sets of the artists under his MS profile.I could write some code that could tag some older threads if their thread titles contain any of our artist names. I'm just not sure it's needed, yet, since I only have a 10-set history in the artist profiles right now and many artists have some type of history already.Leave a comment:
