    Agoria - Fabric 57

Agoria has mixed the next edition of Fabric, due for release in April.

Sebastian Devaud has a particular flair with mix CDs. As past efforts like Cute & Cult, At The Controls and especially last year's Balance 016 made clear, he's not content to just string a bunch of good songs together. He prefers to stay involved, sometimes layering several tracks into the mix at once and making as many unlikely combinations as possible.

"Even if I'm playing a lot of techno in my DJ set I always manage to try to mix tracks that are not supposed to fit together," he says. "Here I was happy to create a remix live of Ella Fitzgerald mixed with four other tracks for example–or to arrange a new 'Speechless' vocal version with Sun Ra, a trio with Carl Craig and La Scalars."

Fabric 57 is divided into 20 tracks, though the mix itself is much more complex than that: the first track weaves together three songs at once, and a few others are used as recurring motifs throughout the mix, including STL's "Silent State" and Lil Tony's remix of "Treehouse." It arrives hot on the heels of Agoria's latest album, Impermanence, which came out last month through Infine, the label he co-founded in 2006.

    Tracklist

    01. Vainqueur - Ranges - Theme / Ensemble Economique - Real Things / Zodiac Free Arts Club - Ein Lied Für Popol Vuh
    02. STL - Silent State / Blacmale - Golden Day
    03. Moritz von Oswald / Tony Allen - Ole Remix / Ella Fitzgerald With The Buddy Bregman Orchestra - Night And Day
    04. Sydenham & Joe Claussell - Rhythm
    05. Clara Moto - Deer & Fox (539.6 East Street dOP Remix) / Lil Tony - Treehouse (Lil Tony Remix)
    06. Canyons - Blue Snake
    07. Agoria - Heart Beating (Argy Tension Remix)
    08. DJ Kaos - Horny Morning Loop (Drdunkskaoticmix) / DJ Tazz - Unrestrained
    09. Eisbär - Subspace Two
    10. Space Dimension Controller - Mercurial Attraction
    11. Agoria feat. Carl Craig & La Scalars - Speechless (Whisper Dub) / Sun Ra And His Mythic Science Arkestra - Somebody Else's Idea
    12. Agoria feat. Carl Craig & La Scalars - Speechless (Radio Slave Panorama Garage Remix feat. Tom Gandey)
    13. Infiniti - Game One
    14. Cottam - Cottam4 - Side A
    15. Mark E - Belvide Beat
    16. Cottam - Sunrise Sunset
    17. José James - Blackmagic (Izmabad 118 Remix)

Versus Carl Craig - Dominas (Ruff Mix)
    19. Various - fabric 57 Puppets
    20. Ella Fitzgerald With The Buddy Bregman Orchestra - Night And Day

Fabric will release Fabric 57 on April 18th, 2011.

As much as I'll look forward to checking this out, the layers and edits and hype in these press releases are boring. They tell me nothing about the overall journey or vibe. Clearly it's not music to be enjoyed but a work of art to be wanked over.

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

Totally agree, getting bored of every mix saying the same thing. Firstly they need to concentrate on picking tunes that are decent, not just 30+ tunes that are 'cool'.

I think this one is pretty good. Agoria and Joris Voorn are the only people I've heard who can pull this off and not sound like asshats though.

cd arrived the other day, listened a few times now. Seems I am not feeling it as much as I did the Balance cd he did. Will give it another try later on. I definitely like quite a lot of the tracks individually though
