I am surprised they don't have more of these units out there. I am more then happy with the Sony Walkman MP3 player I have, its just that the storage space is to small (only 16 gb)

You use it? like for your cars tape deck? if so - that's amazing and awesome! I had 12" subs in my camaro that were decent and used a walkman to play cd's on it in college,

i made the mistake of renewing my iphone with a 16gb again.. only finding out that not a lot of 2 hour mixes fit on it anymore as most are encoded pretty high nowadays lol. so i am finding i tend to go through a refresh every month or so although still a pain (white problems as i like to say --credits to Chris Rock)

How about a smartphone with a decent DAC ?

The iPhone 5s seems like it has great audio quality output and its cheaper now because of the 6

There are good outboard DACs available, too.

I've got one in my car called an iStreamer 12V. Works specifically with Apple products. You use the standard Apple USB charger cable into the DAC, and then it has RCA analog output. No jitter. Works up to 24/48 resolution.
I run that directly into my DSP for the car stereo. It sounds fantastic.

Wow that's cool, didn't know there are DACs for cars.

There used to be custom iPods with upgraded sound chips.

never thought it would be so hard to find a good sounding relatively inexpensive portable music player that is easy to use (sort of like windows explorer) and has a decent amount of storage (50-100 gb would be nice)

                          appreciate any recommendations.

Santa clip+ and a 64gb sd card ? I think combined value on amazon is like 80 dollars. Its not the best sounding device, but with a few tweaks you can get decent sound.
