I totally agree with your comments about Putin. He totally fucked up on that submarine sinking incident also. refusing help from other countries b/c he had probably had nuclear missiles on there.

BESLAN, Russia (AP) - Militants holding hundreds of hostages inside a besieged school released 26 women and children on a second day of high drama in southern Russia, after raising tension by firing grenades at two cars that apparently had driven too close to the brick building.

President Vladimir Putin, describing the attack that has gripped the world's attention as "horrible", said everything possible will be done to save the lives of the children and other hostages seized on the first day of school.

But despite yesterday's releases, it was uncertain how the captives - victims in the latest crisis in a country beset by terror attacks believed linked to its ongoing war in Chechnya - could be freed without further bloodshed or capitulation to demands that authorities said were not clearly defined.
Twelve people, including one hostage-taker, have so far been killed in the attack.

Anxious relatives, friends and neighbours crowded outside barricades blocking off School No 1 in the North Ossetia region town of Beslan gasped when Lev Dzugayev, an aide to the president of the region neighbouring Chechnya, first announced releases.

Camouflage-clad soldiers carried crying babies away from the school, which was ringed by Russian forces, and men and women wept with disappointment or smiled with relief as a mustached man read the names and ages of the freed hostages over a loudspeaker.

Dzugayev and other authorities said 26 women and children of various ages were released, but Russian media reported that one woman who was freed returned to the school to be with her children who were still captives.

MOSCOW (AP)--Five militants holding hostages in a North Ossetia school were killed when troops stormed the building, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported Friday citing Russian television reports.
Hundreds of hostages have been held since Wednesday but the situation came to a head Friday when several hostages escaped and Russian commandos then stormed the building.
Armed attackers had held children, parents and teachers and hadn't allowed water or food to be brought into the school.
A regional official said about 160 people were thought wounded.
The Interfax news agency said militants fired at children who ran from the building, and unconfirmed reports said some of the hostage-takers, possibly including women bearing suicide belts, had fled during the chaos and that they may have taken hostages with them.
Hundreds of hostages apparently remained in the building as the firing raged. Women escaping the building were seen fainting and others, some covered in blood, were carried away on stretchers. Many children were only partly clothed because of the stifling heat in the gymnasium where they had been held since the militants took the building Wednesday.

'More than 100' dead in Russian school

More than 100 bodies were found in a Russian school gym after troops stormed in to end a hostage crisis.

Heavy gunfire and loud explosions were heard as the troops entered the school in the town of Beslan in North Ossetia, where Chechen separatists were holding more than 350 children, parents and teachers hostage.

Relatives and at lease one freed hostage put the number closer to 1,000, according to CNN.

More than 400 hostages and local residents had been injured and taken to hospitals, Itar-Tass news agency said.

Some rebels reportedly blew themselves up, but others appeared to have got away, the BBC reported.

Interfax agency said 10 of the hostage-takers were killed.

The crisis began on Wednesday when some well-armed men and women took control of the school in Beslan. They refused offers of food and water for the hostages and warned security personnel not to launch any offensive.

Negotiations began and everyone, including President Vladimir Putin, said force would not be used to end the standoff.

"I want to point out that no military action was planned," said regional Federal Security Service chief Valery Andreyev on Friday. "We were planning further talks."

The developments came as many captives escaped amid sporadic explosions and firing that lasted more than an hour.

Images broadcast from the scene were of utter chaos.

Half-naked children dashed out of the school. Some were carried and helped by parents and adults. Many were bleeding.

Children were also brought out in stretchers and put into cars and ambulances.

Anxious adults milled around nearby.

One unidentified woman freed on Thursday told Izvestia newspaper that during the night children began to cry.

"Then the fighters would fire in the air to restore quiet. In the morning they told us they would not give us anything more to drink because the authorities were not ready to negotiate.

"When children went to the toilet, some tried to drink from the tap. The fighters stopped them straightaway."

A female suicide bomber killed nine people outside a Moscow subway station on Tuesday.

Two suspected Chechen female suicide bombers downed two jetliners on August 24, killing all 89 people aboard the planes.

In October 2002, Chechen rebels had entered a Moscow theatre and held around 700 hostages.

That standoff ended when Russian forces leaked poison gas into the theatre.

More than 120 hostages and 41 attackers were killed, most of them from the gas.

Yep, you have to say that those in the high ranking positions in Islam have done very little to reign in their fanatics and done very little to make their religion more understood by others. All in all, it's not looking very good for Islam. Even peaceful muslims will have a long, uphill battle on their hands as they have been horribly affected by the radicals. But they've done nothing on the whole to counteract the genocidal maniacs. So, if you're a muslim, especially in the USA, you best watch your back...
