Same as Pete Tong, mixing isnt Oakies forte but as what has been said before boy could he pick a set. His sets were epic especially in Cream during the residency and he put so much into that time too. I was very lucky to see that on my doorstep and enjoyed it to the max. The thing is dj'ing in the 80's apart from Ibiza was a Uk thing but now especially with the internent is a global thing. Apart from Dave Seaman of course who has more air miles than any other dj.

He spotted a niche in the market and did very well with his talent and fair play to him isnt it all about maximising ones talent and sometimes exceeding it. Hats off to him the boy done good.

Just ask Si and Chris to see if they enjoyed themselves in the folklore called the courtyard

I think that there definitely was effort involved, it's just that little bit of effort reaped far greater rewards back then.

Now to set yourself apart you have to bust your ass ten times as hard because due to the internet, the competition in the dj/producer arena is expanding faster than ever on a global scale.

So will we see a rise in djs that influence the game like Digweed, Cox and Oakenfold? I think no.

Also dept=shorthand for department, not assets owed as I think you meant Chunks.

It was hardly a case of being in the right place at the right time. Back when he was doing Spectrum at Heaven he and his partner where 30 grand in debt to the club. He released his partner from the deal and took on all the dept himself. Fortunately it worked out for him.

Or them CD's he handed out for free of the Goa mix back in 1994. It must of cost a fair bit of money to do that.

It was all about those two years he was resident at Cream, Liverpool. Amazing times.

i remember seeing oaky once, he was snorting lines behind the decks and playing like shit and thinking that people werent going to notice lol

haz i love that mix - gu was so cutting edge then.

even tho paul isnt one of my favorites, he did used to be the king of the wheels of steel... its not that i think that dance music then wasnt as good as today, in fact, the early milennium progressive house from austin leeds, lucien foort, diggers and others was prolly my favorite era, however, today there isnt the same feeling of direction, or togetherness there once was... at least in my city... when a great international prog dj comes, all the old crew comes out of the woodwork and gets hammered. its always so good, you see people you havent seen in years and they are happy and it makes you long for the past... but then when you go out on a regular fri or sat, its just fucking lame.

as well as that, i have found that with the crappy psuedo e shit you can buy, the "real" gear has slipped in quality... you get disappointed and dont get to the level you used to be and its all a bit lame and makes me feel like a grandad...
