The protesters streamed out of mosques after Friday sermons, as pick-up trucks with loudspeakers blared messages against Gillian Gibbons, the teacher who was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in prison and deportation.

They burned pictures of Gibbons and called for her execution, saying, "No tolerance: Execution," and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad."

I'm really struggling with a question here: Is this behavior really representative of the way most Muslims over in Sudan and other surrounding countries think about things? Or are these protesters just a few whackjobs, and everyone else around there is personally horrified about the notion of murdering a woman for a stupid, ignorant mistake? I'm sorry to say, but I honestly don't know.

Certainly, there is intolerance everywhere. But at least when the KKK says ugly stuff over here in the US, others are quick to denounce it and to make clear that as a society this is not what we stand for. And while people may have differing opinions over Iraq, war, politics, religion...I would have to go far and wide to find anyone who thinks that a woman should be murdered for this kind of an offense.

What concerns me is that I never hear other Muslims criticizing these sorts of extreme opinions. And this isn't a small isolated cult we're talking about, this is the expression associated with a major national religion over there. I never hear of people in authority within these Islamic states saying "Shame on you...this is not the way, and this is not what we stand for as Muslims." Why is this?? Is this just selective media over here...or does this never even happen?

First of all, read the fucking article: the kids in the classroom named the teddy bear. She just went along not knowing any better.

She asked the students to pick names for it and they proposed Abdullah, Hassan and Muhammad, and in September, the pupils voted to name it Muhammad, he said.

Furthermore, you clearly misunderstood my comment. While I don't think that she should have done what she did, I don't think that anyone should face jail time, lashes, or even death over a name given to a teddy bear, for God's sake. It was an innocent mistake, and she should apologize and be forgiven.

And finally, if you think that this woman should be severely punished over something this stupid...then I can only hope your own ruthlessness is returned to you TENFOLD the next time YOU make a mistake.

OK OK ... well dont believe everything your hear ... first off i really was disappointed by some of the comments around here .. i am muslim and i am from the middle east and really some comments were just childish or ignorant ... I seriously think that the wankers who accused the lady are probably very bad educated ... Yes making fun of a prophet is very badly perceived in our religion whether its jesus or mohamed or moses , but just naming a teddy bear doesnt mean anything , things are becoming really over exagerated nowadays .. some ppl are just looking to make the news and they dont know when they are doing something like that it fires back in their face and in the face of ppl like me who get caught up in the middle just because i am being stereotyped .. As long as Muslims don't do this, they will find themselves on no-fly lists, regarded with suspicion by the rest of the world, etc. I'm not saying that is right, but it's reality; the rest of the world, still terrrified from a previous string of terrorist acts, is in the mood to place caution over trust. If the world sees Muslims and their governments rise up against its own violent factions like this, it will stop fearing them.

I very much doubt that the Muslims had much to do with 9-11. What did they do pray and building no 7 just fell down into its own footprint (no impact). The evidence against is just overwhelming. And that's something people can talk for days about, and believer will believe and nonbelievers wont.

OK well here we go...classes are over, I'm in a bad mood, and I have too much time on my hands today anyways.

Building 7 was very closely within the perimeter of the towers and by eyewitness accounts sustained significant structural damage when the main towers fell. Despite a ton of conspiracy theories I've read about, that is the best evidence that I have seen is that the building fell as a consequence of the main towers going down. Read this:

He was a firefighter. He was there and he saw it. There are plenty of other accounts from rescue personnel who were there and saw what was going on, and they give very similar accounts.

I'll take their word over yours any day.

Of course, I'm sure your own politically convenient conclusions are far too important to be disturbed by things like eyewitness accounts.
