I went to the elektrowerks on friday night to see Surgeon, Andy C, Kicks like a Mule and Shackleton, amongst many others. Where else in the world can you find a line-up as diverse as to include drum and bass, acid house, techno, dubstep,rave and hardcore? Only london of course.

And i loved it :-D made a refreshing change to the usual house nights i visit and was very encouraging to see people supporting every dj that came on, regardless of the music they were playing.

I would agree about the demise in the London scene, with the notebale exception of Fabric. Musically, it's at the absolute cutting edge and every week there's at least 1 DJ/Live act that I've never even heard of, let alone have a strong affiliation for. Went last week with the intention of Jamie Jones (who was great) but the night belonged to this chick who had an hour of her own productions with live singing over the top. It's amazing that at possibly the most well-know club in London you can still see acts like that.

Obviously Fabric has it's downside. It is expensive (both entry and drinks) it's full of tourists who don't really give a shit about the music, but just go to say they've been there, and it gets quite ridiculously bust, but it's definately flying the flag for the dance scene in the UK.

The thing is, there are plenty of places to go to see quality undergound house/techno/etc...with people who also go solely for the music, you just have to look outside of the lager clubs.

Also helps to know less well known DJs as well or just gamble and go anyway based on the type of music. There are constantly flyers around and ads on pirates advertising little underground events, the only prob is that ur highly unlikely to know the DJs or venue. I bet some of them are quality little parties though.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say the larger/slightly more commercial end of the UK club scene is a bit dry at the mo (obv those big DJs mentioned are not commercial but u know what I mean). The music and scene is still going as strong as ever imo..

I so agreed with Greg on this....
When i used to live in UK 1996-2000, i think the place was second best clubin destenation after Ibiza. since i am back in Egypt i do not know really last contact with UK EDM was GG2004 had fun apart from the chavs & total cuntfaces ..u know.

So maybe next summer i will try to go clubing again and let you guyz know what i think.

Its not all about the big names - I think the promotors have a lot to answer for - the likes of Garcia, Luke Fair, Fortier play eastern europe regularly but no-one will take them around the UK ...

Hernan built his profile by playing a variety of small clubs over several years.

Many uk cubs seem to take the cheap option of playing "retro" dance music - in fact the official Retro club night/brand seems to be v popular .. maybe people think they missed our 1st time around.

Ah boys stop your whining, you don't know how lucky you are. The only half decent club that use to be open here, 330, closed down 2 years ago so now if you want to go out on a friday or saturday you got to be happy with 80's remixed shit with the dj calling for requests after every song.

Nowdays most people are doing house parties and the closest they get to a live set is a downloaded mix off the net.

I would disagree to be honest I never really liked turnmills unless I was on a tub of acid.

The price was not cheap considering that dj's usually played only for an hour an a half.
I much prefer the end where you get garnier who comes and spins for 6-7 hours straight.

Perhaps I'm referring to what we have to pay in Australia. And you don't get that every week at the end. When I was in London I got a short set from Steve Lawler . I was absolutely amazed that I got even that so cheaply. For names like these we pay through the nose, particularly at festivals. I can understand why, it would cost a shitload of money to get them here.

Not really. The scene in Singapore is such that if you're a nobody, nobody turns up. Even if you're somebody, you might not be on the punters' radar because the masses over here prefer trance, r&b, and some techno, and that electroshit, and that neurave fuck. The scene here prefers harder music or faddish music, stuff that delivers instant gratification. It's only testament to a DJ like Digweed who can keep the crowd on the floor while building his set. People like Peter Kruder, Steve Bug, or Magda will never ever work the main floor here. DJs like Chris Fortier and JVM had very lukewarm, if any, response except for a handful of people who showed up for them, the rest just happened to be there for the weekend. Same with Moshic (he was extremely disappointed!) and Aril Brikha, and Kasey Taylor. Even Phil K, if he never hooked up with Dave Seaman. Even seeing Three and Folder work the floor was an amazing surprise. Reaction to Gui Boratto this weekend ought to be interesting.

Sadly the reaction to some of Djs you mention is the same here. Here it's not so much trance, it's minimal, electro and that house none of us like!! Really sorry about Moshic, he's right up there on my list at the moment. Would love to hear him!! Good news, we had Dousk and Kasey Taylor here last Saturday and they did get a good crowd even with some pretty stiff competition. Kasey Taylor in particular played a mind blowing set.!

Actually I'm pretty sure Above and Beyond would play to a full house here as well
