Very interesting, if I remember correctly they said that the chances of it creating a black hole that was big enough to do anything was very small.

agreed, black holes are created from remnants of dying stars and nothing on the earth right now has or can create anything even remotely close to the power of a star. so most of their fears would seem unjustified

they are not stupid, its in a controlled enviroemtn or so they think, thinks can go wrong and if its pushed then i think something could go wrong yes but in all honestly something like that needs power to survive and if the power is cut then it dies...

the level of mathematics one needs to actually grasp the concepts these guys churn out is unbelievable. you have to be a giant in two fields (math & physics) to really get this stuff...not alot of people fit that mold.

I think its pretty much a prerequisite to be a giant in mathematics to be a particle physicist.

Also, its *highly* doubtful that a black hole that can do any kind of damage to this planet can be created by the collision of a few sub-atomic particles. Like Kamal said, you'd need something the size of a star/planet to collapse in on itself to create a black hole big enough to destroy the earth.
