Re: Trance Music

At best it is hopefully a gateway to listening to other styles of EDM .. The sound may be a little more progressive, but asking for Carry Foreskin, AVB, PVD and the rest will bring some serious heat on this board, There is an understanding that excessive chedda will not be tolerated in the promos section.

I can't understand why people slag Ferry Corsten off - he's a really good producer with an ear for a melody. The likes of Sander (in his prog days) have put their names to re-mixing his tracks and Diggers chose to end CD1 of GU Sydney with one of his productions.

Gabriel & Dresden are respected producers and Sasha has often used their stuff.

I´d like to read that post that says "thread is over" or else... not again this "trance vs. rest of the music" argue, please!

Re: Trance Music

Ferry Corsten is ok...I find he is hit or miss...he is either really good or really bad.

I do like how he is always in there trying out new things though....he was one of the first if I recall to mix the trance and electro-y sound in his productions.

Re: Trance Music

wOOt! more drab clicky minimal!!!

Love it..!

I bet that the average age of a trance raver is much less than a prog/minimal one. What does that suggest? (that we are all old farts, correct but you know what im saying)

it suggests that all those years of clubbin' and ravin' has made us geezers lose our hearing to the point we think click-house is good shit.

Re: Trance Music

It's very interesting to notice the rigidity of styles applied to describe what, in and of its own sake, is a wide open field. We start with music, then set up boundaries based on production, and arrive at our favorite topic: electronic dance music, or whatever moniker is to your liking. This again is divied up a la Ishkur's guide to electronic music, and then here is where the fun begins.

Within a certain genre we have rules: What is trance? As was mentioned, the snare rolls, big synth chords, huge buildups, long breakdowns are stylistic elements. From here though, what is left to describe the genre? How do we communicate its boundaries without playing it?

The tricky part is, how do you get the point across that 'the type of xxxxxx i'm talking about isn't cheesy, its the type thats xxxxx, and doesn't have a lot of xxxxxxx going on, you know?'

I love hearing the words people use to describe music- chunky, funky, deep, trippy etc

I'm a firm believer that there are only two types of music: good and bad. I bet there's even a country song out there that I would like... I've yet to find it but am nevertheless a firm believer that it's out there.

I lol'd at reading the name Binary Finery... wow it's been a minute since I've heard that tune.

Re: Trance Music

I'll tell you what. That minimal and techy stuff is stupid monkey poo! Who would make mixes out of that stuff? Only a damn fool, that's who.

No the clicky stuff and the electro house stuff were played out in late 2005 in my opinion the best DJ's are the one who play all sorts of styles, prog, house, techno, trance, dnb, minimal, electronica, whatever, look at Laurent Garnier, he plays anything and everything, to boot his radio show is pretty leftfield musically. If you want to relive the good ol daze, go right ahead but to say trance is on the forefront of fresh sounding music is to lie to oneself. T T T T T Toca me.............

I don't know how you got from my post that i said trance is the forefront of fresh sounding music m8.

The best DJ's don't necessarily play all sorts of styles. Hell, digweed could play tekno all night and sound incredible. I know cox, on occassion, will play straight up house. The best DJ's always keep the floor moving, the jaws dropping, and the clientelle returning.
