btw, it could be a program you're installing Xeb.
you could try to disable the System Restore feature right after reinstalling.
The system restore feature is very useful, but could mess up with some non-fully-compatible applications.
To disable system restore:
Right Click on My Computer, Properties, System Restore, Disable system restore in all drives.
(sorry, i run an spanish xp copy so translation could probably be inaccurate)
You can try to reactivate the feature once you have most of your software installed.Leave a comment:

If you have a broadband connection, either DSL or cable, chances are there's a few things you could do to optimize its speed. As there are a number of rather esoteric locations in the registry that need to be changed in order to tweak your connection's speed, refer instead to the selection of registry files here to automatically set the correct values for your system.

do a low level format, dont remember the switch for it in dos, I think it's format c:\*.* / -l or something like that
