Re: Lost Season 5
Totally burnt out on this. Watched the first 3 ep'is and never came back. I started watching American Idol instead, sad to say that holds my interest more.

Re: Lost Season 5
Well, if you look close enough (and used pauseOK, check this out: first, there are some screencaps of the hieroglyphics from the temple here, as well as a closeup up of the stuff we probably care most about here. That figure looks an awful lot like Anubis, who also bears a striking resemblance to the figure in the four-toed statue.
Anubis is served by Ammit, a creature that devours the souls of those judged unworthy by Anubis. Although feared and considered a demon by some, Ammit is ultimately either good (for her role in destroying evil) or neutral, as she has no independent will. When Locke was nearly dragged underground by the monster way back when he referred to it as "beautiful" -- could this be a situation where Smokey is a creatue analagous to Ammit, and Locke is the only one that can see it as it really is, as a force of good?
The Wikipedia description of Ammit isn't exactly on all fours, particularly from a physical standpoint, but it does seem similar in terms of its role. Maybe Smokey is like Annubis and Ammit rolled into one -- both the judge, and executioner?
), you can see Jack in front of a chalkboard, with a lot of stuff about Egyiptians in the preview for the next episode. So, the Egyiptian connection is definitely right.
Two weeks to go till the next fix of Lost...

Re: Lost Season 5
Brilliant find mate. Sure is some parellels. Love it!!OK, check this out: remember at the end of the episode, where Ben awakens to see Locke, and Locke says, "Welcome back to the land of the living?" Well, someone did some digging and found that there is a mythical place in Celtic culture known as "The Land of the Living" that is a sort of Otherworld. "Land of the Living" is hardly a unique phrase, so it could be nothing, but check out the qualities of this mythical place:
-It is located on an island that is always moving
-Its inhabitants do not age or get sick
-time behaves differently there relative to the rest of the world
-home to the Parthelonians, who are descendants of the God of the Underworld -- they had godlike abilities, and were said to live in an alternate existence that was in the same dimension as, but invisible to, humans
-It is also known as the Land of the Happy Dead, and it is a place that people return to after they die -- and because it was eternal, people would be buried in really nice shoes, since they were going to be there for a while
One thing that fits, but doesn't entirely fit, was the idea that you could be reborn from the island back into the mortal world, but you'd forget everything that happened to you in the Land of the Living. Half-point on that one.
Some pretty cool parallels there, IMO.

Wrapping up a series of good episodes, but episodes that felt like "set-up" episodes. Have a feeling that next week's is going to be gangbusters.Leave a comment:

Re: Lost Season 5
Mrs. Hawking said they had to recreate the original crash as close as possible.
Walt was on the plane. I think it is certain he needs to make it back. Maybe Sun will have to bring him back, that would be the journey head of her.

Re: Lost Season 5
I agree. After making such a big deal about how "special" he was, having him appear on the island, etc., he has to have a bigger role in this. We'll see him again, for sure.Leave a comment:
