there's quite a few programs out there, but funky dredd showed me this one last year; i've been using it ever since; and it very proficent and easy to use.

a good quick all around batch converter is EasyWMA. It does MP3, Wav, M4A, WMA in a drag and drop style. http://www.easywma.com/

a niffty tool is snapper... www.audioease.com

A nice batch converter with greater detail is DSP Quattro .. . http://www.i3net.it/dspquattro/asp/homepage.asp

Then again, you could just use iTunes for everything (..almost)

it's not about which is BEST. They all do the same thing. It's all a matter of personal preference. Same thing with DAW programs.

VBR? Why would you wanna convert something to VBR. VBR needs to die. No self respecting DJ would spin tracks encoded in VBR.

pretty good for a freeware, we use it to record live sets, works great.. also for making loops and chopping up samples

- 'Switch' has given me problems (glitches /clicks) in the past, not sure on the new version.

- -A general app is iTunes.

- For all formats 'EasyWMA' does M4A, Mp3, aif, wav. nice easy dragn drop.

- Of of course Cubase has one of the bese LAME encoders still.
