Sorry if it's the wrong forum, but I have a Macbook and having problem downloading due to hard drive space (or lack thereof), so was wondering if whether I delete the downloaded music from my hard drive, it's still stored in Itunes and doesn't disappear from your Itunes if you delete it? I desperately need to free up space to get all this amazing music that's going around

Re: Question about music on HD vs ITunes
Don't know Macs but likely you'll lose it. In itunes, right-click (or the equivalent Mac option), go to 'Get Info' and at the bottom of the pop-up box you should see the location the file you clicked on is stored. If it's the same as where you wanted to delete from - don't.
Best bet is to buy a USB external hard drive - you can get 100's of Gigs for 50 quid now. Also, you really NEED to be backing this stuff up - I assure you, one day your drive WILL fail and you'll lose the lot. Happened to me, and to most of my mates at some point.---------------------------- -
Re: Question about music on HD vs ITunes
Don't quite get what you want. Are you trying to delete music?
If your music is stored in iTunes' music folder, selecting the tracks and hitting DELETE will usually pop up a dialog box asking if you want to move the tracks to Trash.
If your music ISN'T stored in iTunes' music folder, deleting them in iTunes will only remove them from your library, but they remain in whatever folder you saved them in so you need to manually put them into Trash.
What I find useful is this Applescript: You don't have to worry about deleting tracks off iTunes' library, just delete the actual files and folders, and run the Applescript periodically which will remove non-existing tracks from your iTunes library.

Re: Question about music on HD vs ITunes
Yeah Im basically trying to free up disk space and the thing is all the music I download goes to a 'Downloads' folder plus it's copied into I-Tunes.....as long as it stays in ITunes I don't mind, but I need that HD space.....so say I have a mix that's gone to Downloads folder AND been copied into Itunes, can I safely delete it from my Downloads folder and it'll stay in Itunes?Don't quite get what you want. Re: Question about music on HD vs ITunes
Oh that, yeah your files are being duplicated! Safe to delete from the Downloads folder if your iTunes is set that way.
