    Re: [ms] DJ Database

I've spent about 4 hours working on DJDB today... I did a bunch of stuff related to error checking/displaying, I fixed a couple other bugs that nobody has probably noticed, etc.

I made a pretty big addition today, too--I added RSS support for your subscribed artists feed!

Subscribe to only your favorite DJs with our DJ Database!
    - Subscribe to some artists in our DJ Database
    - Grab your personalized RSS URL from the Artists Subscriptions section of your [ms] homepage.

    Exactly

Keep giving me a hard time about it... I'll try to add it this week.

I've expressed my doubts before, but I think that once the updates are added, inputs or not, the database will stay as a resource unique to MS.
Also, I'm a Web worker myself, I stopped caring about "feedback" 10 years ago, the only feedback I need is in the form of a check (in my case). A nice database, next to the Kiss 100 collection and P&R, is an asset.

What I see is that a bunch of people are still missing the point of having MS's mixes mapped out and easier to find, but that might change, in time and with patience. I still think that we should have two listings, one for ten most recent threads, one for the mixes.

bando, I'm not saying it's all me here, you're definitely a stakeholder to the project I just don't want this to be an effort by a few people, but instead a group effort. If we want to see this place grow, we all need to put a little bit of work into it. If only 300 of us put ten DJs into it over the next month, we'd have every DJ you could think of in there and I'd be willing to do the label DB

Ok, I'll post my bookmarks of Agencies and Labels as "tools" for other users to add new entries.

Otherwise, I'm not going to spend another ~3-4 hours/day for four months to create a second database that will ultimately be my responsibility to populate and maintain along with the first one.
Apart from the current forced hiatus, I never gave up on the project, I still update new posts (50% of which comes with no tag), so you're definitely not alone.

    Re: [ms] DJ Database

I'm going to be candid here, so I hope I don't come off as blunt or rude since it's not my intent. My original plan was to eventually add labels and be able to tag our DB artists to labels. As much as I'd love to repeat that process for the labels I first need to see more people populating our current DJ Database. I hate to say it, but there's no way I'm going to create a second database when our current DJ DB is only being populated by about four people. I need to be confident that most members out there will take the five minutes to submit a new artist to the DB if they create a thread for an artist that doesn't exist... it's just not happening.

If I had ~20 committed volunteers who were devoting at least one hour per day submitting DJs for four months, I'd start working on the label DB. Otherwise, I'm not going to spend another ~3-4 hours/day for four months to create a second database that will ultimately be my responsibility to populate and maintain along with the first one.

Even though I had to stop working on the db because of health issues, at present we're adding RA and last.fm fields to the existing entries. I mentioned to Picklez that I had collected quite a few links to labels and agencies sites and he said that eventually he wants to add those too.

Great! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to make the topic its own thread so more people can see the suggestion.
