the soil has double the amount of radiation in it than Chernobyl did.

I think the real question is Tom where do you put 50 million people? The whole island needs to be evacuated or risk imminent death by cancer over the next decade. Then when you move them they will be radioactive and they will spread the radiation. It is a serious catch 22.

This will go down as the biggest man made disaster ever. Of course the media will blame it on the tsunami but the tsunami didn't give off radiation.

wtf are you on about?? evacuate the whole island? if they could survive Nagasaki and Hiroshima i think that our technologically advanced friends with wonderful work ethics will be better than fine in the long run.

It's getting harder for me day by day reading the news about this..so surreal...dunno what news are making it through in other countries. Official / unofficial numbers of dead and missed people change hourly, Fireworkers forced to do their job though they were not properly protected, Government blaming the three workers who got burnt from radiation that they did not pay attention to the security warnings, Government telling people who live 20-30 kilometers away from the power plant to move to a different region...but not because of security reasons...yeah of course not. Other news where you hear that they checked a couple who showed signs of radioactive contamination living 250 kilometers away from it. Most of the Japanese coverage is confusing and contradictory and I only feel sorry for the people. For me, their officials somehow behave like it's 1950



but it's 2011 ffs. How can they leave their own people in the dark like this? I just don't get it and it makes me angry.

^to "bury it" wouldn't stop radiation ground seepage tho, right? i don't think it's simple as covering it with dirt and sand and walking away. i'm not a nuclear scientist tho so maybe it is. they're going to need a sarcophagus of some sort to king tut this thing.

Raditation levels are 10,000x the safe limit.

I can't believe they haven't started to bury this yet. Reactor 3 is gonna kill many in Japan.
