Re: Archives to be deleted...
Just realized that its a little smaller than I had thought (well we lost a large chunk when the other server went down). There's 1,865 sets at about 146 GB.

Re: Archives to be deleted...
I'm contacting my admin, I think it can be done. Storing is not a problem, so don't delete anything. Sub-domain is a different story, we can sort that out later. Is this a Unix server?Leave a comment:

Re: Archives to be deleted...
I'm taking a backup of it right now on a local external HD that I have, once I figure out how to distribute the space on the servers I have, I'll bring 'em back (partially if I have to).Leave a comment:

Re: Archives to be deleted...
yeah the quick solution i have above is just to get the data moved somewhere so it doesn't get lost. no web access for this as of now.Leave a comment:

Re: Archives to be deleted...
No I cant turn it into RAR because there is not enough space on the machine to run the process. I just realized this (and I pm'ed res0 about it), we can't rsync the archives onto Amazon because all of the links will die. If someone has a dedicated server with that much space and can setup an MS subdomain on it, the archives might survive, otherwise someone will then have to manually update ALL the links to the sets and I don't believe anyone in their right mind would agree to do so.Leave a comment:

Re: Archives to be deleted...
Kamal is it possible to compress them into RARs and let us FTP them off the server? 200GB is easy with external hard drives these days.Leave a comment:

Re: Archives to be deleted...
It's funny, because most of the sets in the archive section
are uploaded to megaupload, so, one way or another are lost.Leave a comment:

Yeah, there are many free solutions, before erasing it all. I have a dedicated server myself, with plenty of un-used disk-space.Leave a comment:

Re: Archives to be deleted...
^Kamal how many GB's is it? I will rsync all of that shit to an EBS volume and keep it around for a while somewhere. Either there or in Glacier.
If I can get ssh access to the host again I can archive all of this stuff if you want under my AWS account.Leave a comment:

Re: Archives to be deleted...
I think the demise of the archives is getting very close, it's starting to affect the webhosting of paying customers who are on here and I can't have that anymore. It'll likely come to an end in a month or so.
So for those of you who really want the archives, go ahead and grab it now while it's still hot.Leave a comment:

Re: Archives to be deleted...
I would probably cry if you did that...From what I hear I have missed the glory days of MS but this site is still gold for me...Its about time I pulled my act together and made a contribution...Maybe it's best I finally shut down the site so that this incessant "I can pee farther than you can on the internet" mindset that seems to have crept into the boards will dissipate. 10 years has been quite the run and I have enough on my plate and enough worries of keeping this place running (financially) that I need to have to come here and watch this crap go on time and time again, especially from the mature veterans. Very sad to see this place wither to bits like this.Leave a comment:
