There are several, but this Proton mix specifically:
Echomen - VS (Proton Radio)-SBD-08-08-2012-TALiON_INT
For anyone not familiar with Echomen:
Real Name: Chris Scott, Anton Fielding
Monikers: Lexicon Avenue, New Phunk Theory, Solaris Heights
Genre: Progressive House
The Echomen are Chris Scott and Anton Fielding who are one of the North of England's finest House exports. Chris has recorded classic deep house as New Phunk Theory and Lexicon Avenue for labels such as Paper, Forensic, Airtight and Guidance. Anton is one half of Solaris Heights who have recorded for Paper and Guidance and been responsible for some of the UK's finest House, which is always deep, musical and brimming with funk, as well as DJing at the infamous Shindig and guest spots around the country. Echomen were responsible for some highly touted productions back in the day, 'The Truth' on Hooj, 'Perpetual' on Saw and 'Substance' on Forensic all come to mind. The last two years have been quiet on the production front with hectic DJ schedules and various other commitments but December of 2011 saw the return of Echomen with their remix of Lank & Zajac's 'Juice Box' on Mesmeric Records. It was a great return for Chris and Anton as the track was selected as one of Beatport's 10 Must Hear Progressive House tracks for that week. For Mesmeric's third release of 2012 and 13th overall we find the Echomen returning to the label for their first original productions in two years. Their 'Satellites' single features remixes from Vincenzo and Unarmed Forces.
The 'Satallites' original leads the release off and it brings the classic Echomen sound with a new modern twist. A tight, drummy groove that's accented by some airy vocal hits gets the composition underway. A grinding bass line gradually intensifies which leads to the introduction of a super fresh vocal. Some ultra crunchy processing gives it loads of character and it's certainly an element that your dance floor can identify with immediately. The vocal is showcased perfectly in the breakdown amidst a backdrop granularly textured synths and a warm wall of sub bass. Just fabulous sounding stuff. This piece really stands out in a market that's full of by the numbers progressive and tech house, it's overall uniqueness and quality of production will carry it a long way. Top notch stuff from Echomen.
The first remix of 'Satellites' is provided the Berlin based house maestro Vincenzo. The Italo-German producer should need no introduction with appearances on some of the most cutting edge imprints around, Dessous, Pokerflat, Freerange, Mobilee and Bedrock all come to mind. His productions are routinely championed by Laurent Garnier, Steve Bug and John Digweed. For his 'Satellites' interpretation Vincenzo has softened the overall vibe of the record and crafted another undeniably smooth groove that's full of warmth and emotion. It's remarkable how well Vincenzo's composition's flow, it's that seemingly effortless vibe they have that just makes you wish they would never end. Vincenzo on form as ever here.
Closing the package out is a second version by Echomen under their 'Unarmed Forces' alias which is a much techier interpretation that keeps the big widescreen sound of the original with a more stripped groove and an added air of electricity. Outstanding package from Mesmeric and we hopefully have much more to look forward to from Echomen in 2012.
