Re: So what's with all the electro?

I wouldn't really even call it electro. I'd just say that most dj's are looking to play stuff that does more than the same 32 bar pattern for 9 minutes. They are looking for something more aggressive sounding and noisy. And I totally agree. Music...especially dance music needs to grow or it will die. Look at back in 2003, or was it 2002. Wasn't a great year for dance music, because the scene was so flodded with the same old crap.

I heard the digweed set from three...two weeks ago, and after my first listen I still wasn't into it, but now I think it's almost one of his best. It's the one with Pryda at the end.

      IMO...that is.

Here's a definition from Wikipedia. Take it for what you will.

The quintessential Electro track I can think of at the moment would be Ethan - In My Heart, which is being caned by Desyn Masiello. It was also featured on the newest Dave Seaman mix CD. Is that what you would define as Electro then?

ETN: It seems like everyone is into electro these days. What do you think it is about the sound that's been making it more popular over the past few years?
S: You know electro is a word that's being widely used right now to describe many different styles of music. The way I see it, it's not really electro. It's more a case of, the sounds that are being used are more, sort of, old kind of analog sounds if you will. For me, you listen to Lights Out 1 which came out four years ago. There were some very electronic sounds in that, digital sounds, and that's kind of where the music is for me. I like my music dirty, I like my music fat. With some of these sounds that are being tapped as electro, they're not really electro. If you listen to an electro track, first of all they're electro does not have a 4/4 beat behind it, it has a breakbeat behind it. Original electro is pretty much quite commercial sounding. The music that's being taken now, it's just using the influence of the electro kind of sounds that were used in those days, the old analog sounds, and we're using those on house music now. It gives the music some feel, it gives it a dirty edge, and I like that.

Don't count on it. There are plenty of us, as 3d1200 mentioned, that absolutely love where the boundaries have been pushed. Without mentioning any names, the prog sound that many still play is so boring and stale. It's the same regurgitated darkness in every track. Personally, I'm past all of that. Give me innovative, forward-thinking, original music any day over the same stuff I heard 5-7 years ago branded under different production and track names.

FAO gokada: Relax mate, don't take the internet so personally. Sorry that I can't come up with the name of the track that you are referring to without using Google. I guess that means you have a bigger dick and I'm a loser. So be it, but I'm still correct in that the term 'electro' is used too liberally these days which imo discredits and tarnishes what true 'electro' is.

Those of you that continue to resist the changes that are obviously necessary in order for EDM to continue progressing are going to be in for rude awakening. The style that we all loved years ago is dead. Read that again D-E-A-D, dead. My suggestion: either pack your iPod full of sets from the mid-90's and put them on repeat, or get with the program and embrace the name of the genre and what it defines: "Progressive".
A good shower head and my right hand - the two best lovers that I ever had.
