SLR are super nice, but not worth the money, unless of course you have it. The technology is not there yet, so if you have the bucks go ahead and drop it. I will buy an SLR when Foveon X3 technology is perfected ... still very new. Here is a link if you are interested ... http://www.foveon.com/X3_tech.html So what is so special asdf? Well, it's the closest effect you will get to a film type camera. It still needs years to evolve and become a standard. Some cameras in todays market use it (Sigma). There are some sample pictures, yet I have looked at some others which are just fucking asdf_woot_woot great.

that's the best camera if you don't want to buy a reflex :S

even better than some reflex now.. the one limitation are the lenses, but 35-140 equivalent lens is a standard now

    how much does it cost???

    that's one good camera.
    better than a Canon G5?
    it's a digital reflex...
the lenses make the big difference
but the canon hasnt got the ability of interchangeable lenses, has it?

apparently it does have interchangeable lenses

Steve's Digicams is happy to announce that our "Most Important Camera of 2003 Award" goes to Canon's Digital Rebel SLR.

There were many excellent cameras produced and sold during 2003 but in terms of the one that had the greatest impact on the market we feel the Digital Rebel was clearly the standout camera. Canon surprised everyone by delivering a 6-megapixel, interchangeable lens digital SLR with a zoom lens for less than $1000. I don't think any of us expected to see that low of a price until the latter part of 2004. All of the dealers that I have talked to have told me that the only problem with the Digital Rebel is keeping them in stock, they sell as fast as they arrive. For the advanced amateur or enthusiast user you'd be hard pressed to find a better value in a digital SLR.
arielus: I know the digital rebel has interchangeable lenses. I was referring to the G5. You told me that the lenses were what made the difference. And the G5/G6 hasn't got interchangeable lenses. Thus, I guess it is not as good as the digital rebel, right?

DONT GET A SONY. I worked for them they suck. And I have an F505.

Those fujifilm cameras are great for only $100 at radio shack. But Canon, yep definately the best. :P
