    Re:: Digital Cameras .....

    DO NOT GET A SONY.
While they might have the most expensive, some may say best, lenses >carl zeiss?< they are fucking crap. I had a cybershot something or other that I bought about 3yrs ago. After two years of heavy use it took a shit on me; batteries weren't communicating with the rest of it. I called sony and they wanted 500bucks to fix a camera that cost me 900. Needless to say after asking around my camera was toast... so I spiked it at my wall and destroyed it. Now there are lots of canon fans here and rightfully so.... they have very high quality leica lenses and chipsets, they are pretty easy on the wallet, and they are just nicely crafted. However from my experience I've used a few fujis, a lot of canons, some hurting sonys, and a lot of nikons. The absolute best camera you can buy for under $500 is the Nikon 4500. It has a million features and operates great as a point and shoot or if you want to get more technical. But if you want something more along the lines of that sony jenks, nikon makes a 5200 that is about the same feature wise and on price point. The camera will last forever it takes beautiful shots and they have great customer service.Thats all I have to add.

    Fuck Yes Sir Jenks.

    Canon Owns. Period.

They have the best optics and best technology behind them, in them, around them. I only buy Canon products, and stick by them 110%. If you want to go with something that will make other pros laugh at you ... just get anything but a Canon.

    Here goes ...

    1. PowerShot Pro 1
    2. PowerShot G5
    3. PowerShot S1 IS (for you fucking pervs 10x optical)
    4. PowerShot G6 (just because I have not got to touch one yet)

I love Canon. They do a super job on every detail and aspect. They have a lot of respect from the "pro" world and there is a reason why other companies always copy them. They are the leader, and always will be. Sure they are little more $$$ ... but a picture of your newborn at 5mega or higher ... pricelss with Canon.

There optics are the best, that makes most of the camera. The rest really does not matter. If you want something to slip under that 18 year old dress go with Sony ... if you want remarkable quality and your moneys worth go with Canon.

    Done. The End.

i'm glad this topic came up.

Cannon eh? I was looking as sony's and cannons.

any advice on this puppy for under $500?

    5.1mp ... 3x digital zoom....2.5in display.

i like it because it's small.

For that $$ is a Cannon that much better?

I'll upload some sample pictures taken from my G5 on my recent trip to Hilton-head....incredible camera I'll tell you that.... and right now buy.com has some specials going on where the camera is running about USD 499 with $20 mail in rebate I think. It's a phenomenal value for a 5 MP camera.....

I recently got a G5 as a present and that's prolly the BEST present I have gotten my entire life..... bought a 1 gb flash card to complement the camera alongwith a more powerful battery and I'll tell you.... for an entire week without a recharge / running out of space + I had 400 HIGH QUALITY 1600 x 1200 sized images with the most vibrant colors...

while that is not the largest size (I think it can take 2038 x 1600 - dont remember the exact dimenstions), its a brilliantly crafted camera.

Of course if you're looking for something smaller, take a look at their "S" line of models..... i.e. the S400 / S500

I bought the S400 for my brother on his wedding and it's another awesome camera.... small, lightweight, and with 4 MP's from Canon, you cant go wrong

that sounds f-ing incredible... if you don't mind me asking, how much did all that run you (excluding the camera since it was a present). where did you find the gear? i'm thinking about digital cams myself at the moment.

Have got a Cannon Ixus v3. Wicked camera, though the software with it is a little clunky/sketchy.
