Have also read that after drying, keeping the blades submerged in oil helps to preserve them.

Seriously though, a tip for anyone out there using disposables or Mach 3's, Schick, any sore bought razor. When you start a new razor, when you are done with it, take a hairdryer and actually run it hot to dry the blades completely. Then put the razor where it won't get damp. Whatever you do, don't store it in the shower!
Razors don't wear out because of cutting hair. Wear is almost completely from the corrosion that happens as the blade slowly dries. Then the next time you use it, the hair chips the blade fiercely because the metal, especially at the thin edge, has weakened. I heard this on a radio shopw a couple of years back and thought I'd try it. Razors are expensive! I kid you not. I go through maybe one razor every 2 months, instead of every 5 days to a week. In fact, in two years I have only gone through 10 razors and for the past 7 months, I've been shaving my head too. I bought a 20 pack of Schicks at Sams Club two years ago for twenty bucks, and it's only half gone. This only takes me about 20-30 seconds each time, and it's already saved me in the hundreds $$. you're actually not supposed to shave against the grain. first pass you shave with the grain, second pass you shave perpendicular (sideways) to the grain.Leave a comment:

the new ones are very pricey. about 100+ all the way up to 1grand.
However, i just picked up two different ones, both 5/8's, for under 80 dollars for both, including shipping from california. I found them both on Straightrazorplace.com They do some inter-forum buying/selling/trading. Some really nice guys on there always willing to help out noobs like myself. They all advised me to buy some vintage ones so that if I didn't like it, i wasn't sunk into cost. Check it out imo. There are some other great forums like BadgerandBlade as well.

^ yeah that's what i've been reading. Not going to even bother with going against the grain for a few weeks i think. I'll also need to get good with stroppin' as well.
was really just sick of buying mach 3s. thought i'd try something more cost effective, environmentally friendly, and from what i've been hearing, gives a smoother shave than the disposables.
